Aside from it not being able to be played on multiplayer, my world is ruined, in my eyes. 4-5 months of nonstop working on this world with 10 other people, of hours and hours a day working on this world, completely, aesthetically, ruined. What is this lame stuff with my beautiful, lush biome changing? Why has it gone from a beautiful, lush green mountain and beach and plans to hideous puke green grass and random snow blotches? And don't get my started on my slime and mod farms and my underground city; all of the rooms of more than enough light to light up the entire thing, but now I can't see 5 spaces without pitch blackness and dust particles in the air.
My main, MAIN gripe is the underground effects; is this a bug? Or is literally permanent? I mean, dude, I have glow stone and torch-lamps EVERYWHERE, yet, you can't see a thing!

I see you've met my good friend, void fog. The most useless and annoying (intended) feature of Minecraft!
I feared this change, but I got really lucky- all it did was shift a snow biome over a chunk or two into an area I've barely used yet. I feel for you, though; I've spent every hour of Minecraft working on this seed since since early June, and I'd go insane if I lost all that progress.
I stood at my animal farm, which is in the middle of the sea for an hour and not one single animal spawned.
4J should use some proper Beta testers, 4J steve says he can even replicate some of the major Bugs.
I don't think anything spawns while you are present. It was my understanding you need to be at least 24 blocks away. Unless I misunderstood. My mob farm is working better than ever, BTW.
And from the perspective of a programmer, there are always bugs. No amount of testing can ever eliminate them entirely. If we wait until all bugs are found and fixed, the software is never released. And the more users you have, the higher the incidence of issues. It's worth remembering that just because something doesn't work the way you expect doesn't mean it's broken.
On my new 1.8 map, one side of a mountain range is over-run with wolf packs while the other side is rampant with pigs, sheep and cows. My dog died because I couldn't find any food for several days until I tunnelled through the mountains. That's called "part of the game," but I've already read several posts calling such a situation a "bug." The gametype is called "Survival," not "Eden." I don't think it was a typo in the menu

Right, those are features, I suppose. But, seriously, some features are absolutely ridiculous!!! Why on EARTH wouldn't my tremendous amount of glowstone and torches light up my underground city??? Now the city is HORRENDOUS. That's my MAIN concern right now! I can live with the hideous mixed biome on my surface, but my underground city??? Unforgivable.

I really have no desire to play anymore.
I understand how you feel about your underground city. I think it's worth pointing out, however, that updates for this game have always been planned. I am sure I'm not the only one reluctant to put untold hours into the 360 version before this 1.8 update - we all knew the developers would be bringing updates from PC to the console, some of which would not be available if you completely explored your world.
The void fog near bedrock was a PC feature that was destined for the console version, just like all the other PC features. Some have not been implemented yet, but it would be foolish to think the game is a fixed quantity that will see no further changes.
Again, I understand how you feel about your underground city being lost in a fog, but it's not like ANYONE implied there would be no significant changes to this game over time. Quite the opposite. And I have some difficulty shedding a tear for someone upset that they invested huge chunks of time into a video game for nothing. Everything you make in Minecraft is a digital ghost - it's not real and never was. We play because it is entertaining and fascinating to see what can be done, not because our creations will stand for millenia. A little perspective is important
Exactly the same thing has hapened to my world. Months and months of work on an underground city and now I can't even see it. And anyone who suggests starting a new world is hardly getting the point. People have invested months of time in a creation that has been arbitrarily taken away from them with no warning. It's left me not wanting to load the game ever again.
To be fair, while nobody ever made an announcement to slap you in the face with the warning about these things, both biome shifts and void fog are features that were known would be in the update, and could have been found out by simply looking up the Adventure Update on the wiki to see what was coming.
People saying "start a new world" get the point, and are giving you the only answer to your complaint that there is. What do you want people to tell you? There's nothing else to do at that point. I had my good world ruined by the update as well. My friends and I had multiple cities built all across the map, and the idea to the map was that you got everywhere by sailing. Every town had dedicated ports and a few of the towns were built on the shore and over the water. Then the whole world iced over. Done, finitio.
So yeah, I understand the feeling of having a creation I spent months on getting yanked away from me. I also understand the concept of starting anew. I can do it better and enjoy lots of new things I didn't have before along the way. One can make another underground city, maybe it just can't be all the way down. Maybe you'll go into the huge caves in 1.8 and see something way cooler to build around than you had in your old world.
TL;DR While it sucks, refusing to let it go and move on is just stubborn.
That won't help things. Everything he mentioned will still be the same with a newly generated 1.8 map. The terrain in 1.8 is hideous.

Retired StaffI see you've met my good friend, void fog. The most useless and annoying (intended) feature of Minecraft!
There is something fun about watching your first iron ingot being made to make your first iron pickaxe.
EMBRACE!
There is nothing fun about watching your main world of which you spent since the very HOUR XBMC came out, be decimated aesthetically.
I just play PC now instead, there is no other alternative.
