My old world is all messed up, it rains in the desert and my forest is covered in snow.
Giant walls generated in non-generated areas before the update and there are no NPC villages in my world - and probably no ravines and mineshafts.
But the big question is - Is it worth creating a new world now? And what about the next update? Will it mess up with the world I create now? And those new structures that come with 1.2, are they REALLY important? cause if I create a world now it wont have those in the next update.
I'm probably going to start a new world too, but are undiscovered places on the map affected by the new update? That is to say, will the blank portions on my map from my pre-update world generate post update stuff like ravines, strongholds, and villages?
Minecraft is dev'ed to be backwards compatible, but they do the majority of their testing and designing for new worlds made in the update. It's something to live with. Either love the quirks of your world (knowing that no world ever made now will have them), or make a new "normal" world. Either way, if there is a chunk generation change or biome change at the next update then the world will change again.

Yes, you should see new features in unexplored areas provided they are big enough.
NO DON'T! Having an old screwed up world shows that you've been playing for a long time. And that means your world has character and rustic charm. If you haven't found any villages or anything it probably means that you haven't travelled out far enough. Plus the weather is usually fixed in new areas. I've been playing the same world since alpha. Whenever I come upon an old screwed up area I just pretend I'm a post-apocalyptic survivor and the weirdness was caused by a pole-shift or nuclear winter or something.

My character jumps higher than your character.
Your awareness of your surroundings rivals that of Dora the Explorer.
I have some pretty nice stuff built already, put a lot of effort on all of that, without dupe glitch or others.
Since I don't have watermelon seeds in this world (and I really want those), I'm gonna enter Creative and add a few so I can harvest them. Disabling Leaderboards? Who gives a f***. Leaderboards already reseted on me three times for no reason. I'm tired of getting all my nice rank posiiton back to the last position among my friends list. There's no points working on something thats not reliable at all.
I'll just keep playing legit in my world and for those things I can't have the normal way (watermelon seeds), creative mode will lend me a hand. And when I feel the urge of blowing something up or building pixel arts, then I can switch to my superflat creative world to build stuff.
Just keep exploring until you find an abandoned mineshaft. Go on a nomad adventure, they don't call it an infinitely expanding world for nothing. Plus, If you're gonna keep playing legit, it would be a shame to spoil it by cheating for silly-old watermelons. Just think, when you finally do find them it'll be all the more satisfying. I nearly did backflips when I finally found mine.

So yeah.. post your thoughts on it.
I have many now.
One is the tutorial world dedicated to me blowing it up on creative with TNT.
A great stress reliever.
