I've had this question many times by myself. I'd think that placing a random rail and minecart in the middle of your map may work. Then you can use a fishing rod to reach for the mob and drag it to your setup.
If the plan is to farm food I would suggest capturing a few chickens and making an egg farm. That way you can hatch the eggs wherever you like (in a pen) and have an infinite chicken supply as long as you don't kill the original few.
Idk about that, but I still got a lot of friends that are part of the family. I guess you could say I still am, I just don't listen to the music anymore or support PSY in any way. I love the family, I just don't like the label. It took me a long time to realize this, but ICP found an untapped demographic and exploited the hell out of it. That's where the label comes from and it's why I disagree with it.

You just throw the eggs, I believe they have a 1/8 chance to hatch a chicken. You can also rig a dispenser up to a clock to shoot the eggs for you while you're off doing something else. Either way, you still have to collect eggs yourself though.

The possibilities are endless, really. A clock of some sort is used in any automated circuit. Just take a look at some of my topics, almost everything I have ever built uses a clock.
From simple blinky thingies, counters, to hard disc drives, and even a full CPU I have built to successfully run on clock signals. I would go as far as to say clocks are the second most important redstone components in existence, right behind logic gates.
The fishing rod method is probably the best way to go unless your like me and just fail at life with it. I usually build a pen wherever i want the animals and place dirt blocks on the outside of the fence so animals can get in the pen just not out. The only bad part about this method is sometimes it'll be an extremely long time before an animal happens to go into the pen.
