I know that we were told existing worlds from 1.7.3 would not change, and we would only get new biomes for areas that had not yet been explored, but in my world, I explored the entire map already, so I didn't expect to see any changes to it - and was fine with that.
But.... I have an area which used to be a beach, and an island where I built a mob spawner, so it was an area I have spent a lot of time in, and know what it's normally like.
Now since the update, that area has started snowing - many of the blocks are now covered in snow. Also, all the water surrounding the island is turning to ice, I can quite literally see the ice spreading further and further out.
I also notice that the colour of the green in the trees and grass in many areas of my world are no longer as vibrant, they are more of a dull shade of green - I assume this is from a change in biome as well?
So what's going on here? Why would my world be changing when we were told it wouldn't?
This is a fairly common bug ( Half my world turned into.... MOUNTAINS?). It is a problem (maybe on purpose,) with the biome code/chunk generator. As for the grass... that just new biome features.
The biomes basically consist of two parts, the generated part, ie the physical blocks, this was created when you got close to the area and that part of the world was generated. This didnt change.
the second part is the weather pattern and colour of the stuff in the biome,, these did change, and there were several threads about how they would do so well before the update was released.
well i believe some of the biomes got mixed around.... after all some were even replaced if not deleted... So it could be the number labeling those specific biomes have changed, so in order for the game to recognize the biome it use to be, it has to label it with something. Which in case probably ended up with that new redefined biomes...
Oh and i believe there are no more mountain biomes anymore.... just hilly plain/taiga and extreme hills... things got mixed around that is for certain.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Blah no fix! My world is slowly freezing over. I can sit and watch the ice spread.... It's annoying me a lot. now i feel like my very first world is useless. looks ugly with all the ice. There is no snowing or snow on the ground, just all my water is turing into ice.
Build a giant bio-dome around the sky.
No more snow, rain, or lightning,
and if you use non-transparent blocks...
FOREVER NIGHT XD

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.

The exact same thing happened to me. The biome shift rendered my world useless, because it ended up being mostly snow after the change. My world was built around the idea that there would be several locales, all near water, that would be linked by waterways. Every city had dedicated ports. I load up my world to check out creative to immediately see everything go to ruin.
It broke my heart. R.I.P my old pride and joy.
