My town used to be in a flat, plain biome. When I first started my world when I got the update, it started snowing! It never snows in a plain biome! It kept on snowing and snowing, and eventually the grass started changing color into the taiga biome grass! So long story short, my biome changed from plains to taiga. The trees also turned into dark forest trees. So, any one know what happened?
EDIT: I played on my world again, turns out the trees didn't change, but the leaves did. Mustache_Guy cleared something up, leaves are biome dependant. Leaf change is not a glitch! But I'm still angry my town is officially ruined with stupid snow!
yes, the biome code changed. think of it as global warming... or global cooling, or something like that.
i would be interested to know how the change happened though, was it sudden or did it happen gradually?
I slowly happens over time. I have a desert biome on my map. Went for an exploration after todays update & found that it was slowly freezing over, block by block. I'm gutted. I hate snow biomes with a passion.
I'm suprised that the trees changed - since they are their own blocks and not weather. Terrain shift (or biome shift) was not supposed to alter existing blocks (much like you won't get new structures in explored lands.) At least this was my understanding....
I made that nice huge thread telling everyone this was going to happen. Did anyone listen to me? No.
Please see my post above - biome shift will overwrite trees? How does this work? Will leaves suddenly rearrange themselves. will light wood blocks suddenly transmute to dark wood. And how far does it go? If you harvest wood blocks from an area and put them in a chest, will they become dark wood if the biome shifts?
I did not understand (I think) the full implications of what you were saying in the other thread.

Leaves are dependent on the biome they are in.
In your game , go take some leaves from a forest, and put them in a desert. You'll notice that they turn brown. When the biomes shifted in your old world, the leaves change according to the biome. They are not rearranged and wood does not change.

WAIT! Not the wood blocks them selves, but the leaves turned greener, into the taiga forest leaves.

AH- okay, I mis-interpreted you description.
MG- no need to be snarky ;-) I knew leaf hue was biome dependent, I read "The trees also turned into dark forest trees" wrong. Actually, I kind of wish the wood would change too (even though I know i can't) - that way I could get dark wood in my original world without having to resort to creative....
Well I will now have to see what is happening... LOLZ, I have two worlds. One I just stayed as close as I could to spawn. After the update nothing changed in the areas of the map that I had built in. I how ever have not gone to my almost completely explored world that has a good amount of stuff built in it.
So when I get home form work! I will looksee!
I will say this, on my second world, since the update it's fun getting apples from trees and there seems to be A LOT MORE COAL AND IRON!
