Do old maps have abandoned mine shaft, villages, etc.

I was walking around my main world today for some villages and looking underground for mineshafts but i couldnt find any. Do they not appear in old worlds or do i just keep on looking?

They only (will probably) appear in unexplored areas of old maps.

Vice-versa:
If you'd explored your whole (old) map, the only way to get the new terrain features is to start a new map.

Exploring above ground is the same as exploring below ground according to the game... so the answer is no...
