Think of it as a learning experience. Now you know not to build at Bedrock.
damn man - you are snarky today. Who dropped a house on your sister?
Void fog was not something that was talked about as being added in the update. I don't recall it showing up in the wiki change logs either. It is a pretty big change and does muck up builds at the bedrock. I can't re-hash the argument that went on when it was introduced on the PC, but I'll bet a lot of people made really good arguments about things being added just "because."
i don't mind the haze at all...in fact i kinda like it. it breeds a certain amount of eeriness to the game. Now only if they(4J) could take the music off a constant loop and only play it a little bit every few minutes or so like on PC it would add more to the creepy atmosphere of the haze
i never said it did, think you quoted the wrong person
Wasn't implying that you had said it did. I was just hoping that it wouid. it was the one thing I was planning to try when I first got home. As I feared, I'm finding I can't play in that murk. Just too much strain on my old eyes. They're watering like crazy and I have a headache. This one's a game breaker for me, I'm afraid.
ETA: It's not a question of whether or not I like the eerie effect. I now cannot tolerate playing this game for any duration (near bedrock at least) without getting a headache. My eyes are straining too hard to see through a digital fog layer that cannot be seen through.

I know, it gets kind of annoying, most games at least try to have a varied soundtrack. I just pop my turtle bay onto my pod and play with custom soundtrack.
I can't figure out why my husband doesn't see it but I do on the same tv. I have a screenshot of us standing side by side at y5 and he can see particles, but no fog. My screen is totally black past 5-10 blocks.
Want to start by saying, I got my first XBox right at a month ago (PS3 guy) just to play Minecraft, which I never even played on the PC. I came to these forums for the first time ever today specifically to read up on this issue. I know prior to yesterday's update, I didn't have this issue. I could see all the way down my grid mine paths. After downloading the patch, I can't see from torch to torch. It's really annoying me.

Played on splitscreen?
Is there any openings to the surface (ie. anywhere you can see the sky)?
The implementation of the fog is ... not good...
First of all, it's not fog, it's a render distance cap (but it's really not - more on that below). Second, if you are standing in a patch where the sunlight reachs, then you will see zero fog. Because of the way light propogates (it looks smooth but light levels are really calculated on a block by block basis) one person could be standing right on the edge of a pool of sunlight at bedrock and have no fog while a person standing right beside them (but 1 block outside the pool) could only see 5 or 6 blocks in any direction.
More on what the fog really is.
The void fog is two effects, grey particles that "float up" and a solid black wall of particles that draws nearer the closer you get to bedrock (the wall appears at y=28 and below). Now, based on pc behavior, we know that everything behind the wall is still rendering, it's just that the wall acts as a impermeable screen to vision (this is why optifine users on the PC can deal with it - optifine allows them to set the transparency of the wall to 100%. - the void fog is still there, they just don't see it). The obvious correction is for 4J to implement a toggle that allows MCXBLA user to do the same.

That's the same thing I thought when I first found the post. I first made a Google for "Minecraft XBox 1.8.2 draw distance", that's how I found this forum/post.
Ya, i built a underground city at bedrock, without duplicating anything and im very proud of it, but i still got a lot of work to do and i can't see anything. It completely runed my world. 4 mounths of work. If they could just make an option to turn it off, it would make everyone happy.
If you go in creative mode the fog is not there!! only in survival. This sould be an easy option to add into the game to toggle fog. And i don't want to play my world on creative, its cheating and i want to fully respect the work iv done.

Thanks for the tip. I haven't tried anything with creative yet. It's not ideal (My main build world is completely legit so far and I would also prefer to stay out of creative mode if possible), but I may have to resort to this...so it's good to know that at least I'll be able to see something at bedrock in creative mode without getting a headache. Thanks again.
Dunno if this has been said, but I was looking for a way to get rid of bedrock fog...and I just happen to remember this thing called an "options menu" that has a button called "Bedrock Fog" that can be checked or unchecked. So I came here to find an answer, but I end up giving an answer lol

This is a pretty old thread and it was made before the "Bedrock Fog" option was added. Notice the last post was made in October of last year.
Day light gets rid of the fog. If you dig straight up and put a block of glass at the top, no rain comes in and the fog is gone. I don't think the option to get rid of the fog is there anymore. it might be but I can't seem to find it on 1.7.4

Welcome to the XBox 360 forum, where we are playing TU13, not Java Version 1.7.4. By the way, the last reply in this thread is over 11 months old, grats for raising it from the dead....

unicorn kid > C418 for minecraft music
I have the music at 0 and just ripped a bunch of CDs to the XBox HDD and listen to that while I play.
