So how can you hunt for diamonds or make slime farms, or anything?
Wiki says void fog starts at Y28 except on superflat mode (which implies they CAN remove it) It also implies that by the time you get to bedrock you can see nothing regardless of lighting levels - However, Slime only spawn below 16 and diamond hang around at 12, so how are you ever supposed to see to make anything down there?

I love it lol. My strip mine is completely blacked out, but it looks so cool down there! I still get slimes spawning down there so it's no problem for me.

This is disappointing to hear; and, unfortunately, it will probably be a game breaker for me. I have vision issues and was having difficulty seeing some elements of the game as it was.

UU_A,
I've been looking for screenshots (at work, plus I may skip update until hotfix is released), this is all I've found so far http://www.planetminecraft.com/mod/void-fog-no-more/
(Note that, in this case, before is render range with fog on and after is render with fog removed (from the same spot))
this video shows it happening (as you move from an area with skylights to without) I presume that in his texture, bedrock is the blackcobble stuff which would place him standing on y5 and his head at y7)
I think this video shows what it would be like standing on y5 without any lighting
hope this helps - I can seem to find any good reference shots that specifically show the y stat. since the fog effect is curvilinear (see the picture in this thread), is really important to know at what level the video or shot is taken.
Thank you very much electricblooz. If the view here on my PC screen is any indication, I am in for a real struggle. The foggy shots look totally black to me, even for the blocks closest to the player. I'll just have to play around with it when I get home to know for sure if there's anything I can do.
would be nice to have a slider for it to tone it down like you do the gamma... or just turn off entirely via option... We will see, as i am not fond of it myself. I just wish the lit areas would cause the fog to disappear and/or reduce it to some degree, but lighting has no effect which makes torches practically useless more or less any other lighting beyond sunlight...><

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Increasing the gamma doesn't help at all? Drat... I think I'm totally hooped then. I won't be able to play this game anymore without getting a massive headache.
It gives a more ominous feeling when you're in a cave, in my opinion. You'll get used to it after a while, we on the PC version literally cried about it, and 2 weeks later people forgot it even existed. Although, it really does suck for people who have already established a full base at bedrock.
I've always loved it. It gives to that feeling of danger when you're that far down. But I agree that there should be an option to disable it or lower the setting.
I'm a fan of the haze. Got to see it in a friend's world. As someone who never plays on peaceful I think this is a great addition. Most of the fun of the game for me is the survival challenge while I build. Making it harder makes me happy.
I do see other people play differently, and I see no reason why it shouldn't be at least an option for the host to toggle. Or link it up with peaceful mode so it's only activated on Easy, Normal, and Hard.
I noticed the "fog" earlier today after the update, thought it was a "dynamic" lighting update, I liked the effect while I was mining. But I have not built slime farm or any thing like that yet. It does seem wired that you would get "fog' the deeper you go? "Fog" should be on the surface.... Fog on the surface would be cool with monsters and e!

Yuppers! I have five friends that went all the way to bed rock, built slime farms and "bases" at bed rock. and one of the areas is a huge lava pit thing.

Screenshots at bedrock, please?

I for one love it. Makes going mining that low so much more interesting. You've really got to pay attention that far down now.
