Go into network settings and "test xbox live connection". This will log you out and reset your connection to Live. I was checking every 10 minutes with no result until i tried this and immediately got the update when I loaded minecraft after logging back in.
Absolutely loving the update so far, almost overwhelmed with where to begin with it - Tutorial? Superflats? Exploration of new terrain? There's so much to do!
