Why not have a major island. Maybe 200-250 blocks in diameter with 4-6 smaller islands (100-150) each with it's on unique theme.
The major island of course being home base. Maybe make it a bit naturalistic (Trees and such) and have quite the spacious base centered on the island. A track way leading to each other island that has it's own theme. IE: Forest, Mountains, Ocean, Tundra, Mecha, Modern, Sprite art.
That is something I would quite enjoy traveling around and working on.

Yup in my original post I mentioned having a main island of 201 blocks in diameter with smaller islands surrounding it. I am tied between each island be biome based or having a specific job such as farming or housing. I like the idea of having an island dedicated to pixel/sprite art.

Something I love building... Rail systems, so that is a big help to me as well. My searches didn't turn up that one i wonder why. hmm.. maybe because there are 1000s of tutorials or so it would seem.
