I have been pondering putting up a redstone school of sorts, and inviting people to give them hands on instruction with mid level redstone machines and circuits. Things like double doors, auto raising/lowering gates, repeating redstone circuits, that kind of stuff. I will probably include a logic gate section as well.
So im here asking what kind of interest you guys would have in that sort of thing. I know many people (like me) have little issue finding what they need to know from the wiki or youtube, but i keep seeing alot of people that cant quite "get" it. The idea being that i can give people a basic understanding of redstone and its mechanics, then they would be able to experiment and grow from there.
Obviously i wouldnt waste my time on just anybody, so the invitees would probably have to be at least semi-established forum posters, people actively involved in our community. Sorry Tree Punchers
I would appreciate your opinions and feedback on this guys.
Good idea all around I think. I suck at redstone personally.
I can manage basic 5 clocks and inverters for double doors, that is about all I learned on my own. So this is smart for others like me who as you said, "struggle to grasp the basics."
Some suggestions: Automated farms, cobble generators using redstone, hidden crafting tables/furnaces, that sort of thing.

Those are great suggestions and will surely add them if i end up doing it. Thanks for the input.
I would like to see this pan out since there really are not a lot of folks I know who are good at redstone. Most of my friends are just builders and tom foolery idiots.
I've always thought the idea of a redstone "school" was kind of silly. A one on one tutoring kind of thing, I can see how that would work. As long as the tutor is someone who thoroughly understands redstone. When people learn, they should know the difference between soft power and hard power. They should know how solid blocks can store power, what items can draw that power from them, and what items can send a signal through a block. Redstone is unlike any power source in reality, and should be treated that way. You can't "teach" someone, referring to it as you would electricity.
Precisely Nose_Job. I wouldn't be standing there yakking to people, I would have examples built showing the different properties of redstone explaining how it works. Working mechanisms that don't really do anything besides illustrate redstones unique properties and the way it interacts. Then I would be there to explain each mechanism, the important "why" its working, and answer questions about that property. Now I'm by far not on expert level, but I do understand how redstone works and am learning new things every time I built a new contraption. The idea of the school is to get more people to my level so we can get a larger, better informed redstone community going here.
Thanks for the input N_J.

LoL, I almost forgot to reply to this. I too am surrounded by tom foolery :/
like nose_job said, i dont know how well a school would work because people learn at different speeds. However im looking for someone 2 work on coop builds to, create a redstone based world with, after 1.8.2 is released. if this is something u would be interested in then add me on xbox (GT - 'NV Carps').
PS. I know what im doing when it comes to redstone, as im sure u do. (im from UK so usually online between 5pm and 11 GMT)
That sounds cool, but I'm afraid I probably wont have much time outside of my new survival map. I would have to squeeze the school in as it is But I'm always looking for people to play with so Ill keep your GT handy. Maybe in the least we can trade redstone ideas.

As long as you understand how redstone works, that's all that matters. When explained, the mechanics of redstone by itself are pretty simple. Once they're up to that point, then they can decide which direction they want to take that knowledge. There are so many sub-genres of building with redstone, it's ridiculous. Some take a path like SethBling, looking for innovative ways to use redstone in general. Some are like disco_ and design unique custom redstone games or arenas. Some folks like traps, doors, combo locks, and things of that nature. Then some take that long, lonesome, irritating, confusing, yet rewarding road that we call computer science. Hopefully we'll see some more of those popping up soon, it kinda sucks building solo all the time.
