So in the PC version of minecraft, you can place monster spawners through a third-party program, like MCedit, or through a mod, like NEI. That's probably why Mojang isn't adding them to vanilla.
So I was wondering about asking 4J Studios to add MOnster Spawners to the creative menu so we can further create our X-Box based adventure maps. Not only that, but it could be one of those 'exclusive features' that Patty BUrns and Notch were talking about adding to Minecraft XBLA so it would encourage PC users to play XBLA.
So what are your thoughts on this? Are you for it, against it? Do you even think 4J would consider it?
I would love it if they added monster spawners to creative. Not all mobs have them, so having them wouldn't replace the need for mob hunting any more than mob grinders do already. Would just let you more easily make specific mob grinders.
We could just wait for 1.2.3 and use Mob Spawn Eggs.
Adding Monster Spawners would render Mob Spawn Eggs useless. So I doubt they'll do it.
What I meant was for adventure maps and such. So many adventure maps have Monster Spawners, and I'm sure others like me would like to place them in our Adventure Maps and share them with other people.Sorry if I wasn't clear enough

I knew exactly what you were talking about.
That is what Mob Spawn Eggs were added to the game for. To give a form of mob spawners. Once we get to 1.2.3, we'll have them.

I doubt we'll ever see adventure maps and or map sharing.

Don't count them out just yet though. You never know what's going to be in the game in the future if they plan to deviate a little from the original game. I'm really hoping for texture packs, DLC or not.
Mob eggs are more of a hassle when building maps, you have to use a dispenser to spawn the mobs where you want and not only that you have to have a way to activate that dispenser, where as placing a monster spawner is much easier. Place and move on.

Even right now they are possible. I think TheGamingLemon put up some videos a long time ago about downloading adventure maps, but I think it takes a USB.

Then if they put mob spawners in the game, they should remove Mob Spawn Eggs.
Agreed ChikkaBowWow. Place a mob spawner, left click to open a selection menu. Select your type of mob and voila. It would also make creating mob traps a whole lot easier as well instead of finding the dam dungeons.
No offense, but I'm just going to call pure laziness on that one. What is the point of even playing the game at that point?
Because not every map has dungeons. Besides which there are other things to do you know.
Every map has dungeons, you just have to find them.
The reason Mob Spawners were never added to Minecraft is because that would render Dungeons useless. What would be the point of a dungeon with a mob spawner if you can just get your own mob spawners and place them. Everything in Minecraft is balanced because it exists for some purpose and use.

^^^ Yup yup yup.
The eggs are much more useful anyway. They make it easier to regulate exactly how many mobs are being spawn. Plus, you don't have to worry about being within a specific distance of a spawner.
What would be the point of a dungeon with a mob spawner if you can just get your own mob spawners and place them.
To make challenge maps, using spawners and restricting torches as a means to force a player to move strategically through an area while avoiding an infinite amount of monsters that spawn in a way that can't be avoided.
I don't see why this should be a matter of spawn eggs vs spawners. Though serving similar purposes, they function in entirely different ways and can fill different niches.

Thats like saying what is the point of creative if you can just go and get the resources yourself.

Except Creative has a clearly defined purpose. It's a game mode for people who want to just build, not survive. Same thing with dungeons. They're there to infinitely spawn monsters and provide loot. What would be the point of searching for dungeons if you can just get your own mob spawner and place it anywhere? There would be no effort and you would just farm the loot that drops from the mob you're farming.
Everyone can keep getting on me for my views on it, but I'm not going to change my mind. the game was made with a balance of sorts. Notch has always said he never wanted to add anything that didn't have a purpose. Dungeons have a purpose. Adding the ability to have your own mob spawners would ruin the purpose of dungeons making them useless.
