Microsoft does not allow 3rd party content on their Xbox 360. That means, no player made mods from the PC.
What will be added is official 4J made DLC.
Tosh, look at all the indiv games, 3rd party people using microsoft to prompt their games. I think what you mean is any 3rd party will still have to get certification from microsoft.
Some of the "Logic" in this thread is making me ill. Seriously, we're never, ever, ever, EVAR gonna get mods that are on the PC. No tekkit, no too many items. Nothing, they were user made. 4J can't just copy them. In the sense of people saying Mods are emnt to cheat and stuff, most aren't. Texture packs are technically a modification. It does not change gameplay mechanics at all though. Mods like, Unbelievable Shaders, Realistic water. They aren't cheating, they aren't really changing gameplay mechanics. They just change how stuff looks. They are still modifications however.
Either way, 4J like mustache_guy said won't be taking PC mods. We don't need to be working for 4J to know this. It's common knowledge really. They are looking for inspiration for DLC's they can put on the MP for us to buy. It's simple business..

They would probably not only have to get the mod certified but they would also have to prove that the original developer of the game (Mojang) and the company that holds the legal contract to port the game onto the XBox (4J) both consent to and support the modification. Microsoft's policy, I'm quite sure, is in place at least in part to prevent people from exploiting the copyrights and creative rights of the original developers of XBox games. The point is, it's just not a matter of picking this mod and that mod and thinking this is a great idea. A lot would have to happen from a legal perspective before the "mods" could be added, even as DLC.
Then, there's the technical aspects to consider. We already have a game that seems to be seriously pushing the limits of the technical capabilities of the XBox. It is evident from Paddy Burns' comments that 4J have been struggling with this and that part of the issue is all the various changable/customizable aspects of the game that the system has to keep track of.... and the basic game to 1.2.3 that they have already been contracted to port isn't even all there yet. Each mod also uses up a little RAM and makes a little more demand on the processing power of the system. I honestly think the time to truly talk about what mod-like additions we might like to see on the XBox version is AFTER they at least manage to get all of the 1.2.3. official version operational.
The people in this thread have a hard-on for their own definitions of mods and dlc. I can define it however I want, so I'm right. Yeah, you are right, but that mentality sucks.
The people in this thread have a hard-on for their own definitions of mods and dlc. I can define it however I want, so I'm right. Yeah, you are right, but that mentality sucks.
It's really not hard to define what a mod is.
Say you are playing a game. Finished, complete, final product. You want the sky to be yellow instead of blue. Well, that's a mod. You modified the game. Short, simple, and sweet. Any modification to the existing final product is a mod.
Here's the thing.... Who cares what they're called? If we do get mods they will be 4J's mods and will be in the form of paid DLC. Tekkit,Sky Block, all the mods on PC will not I repeat NOT coming to Xbox. We will get something akin to the PC mods but again it will be 4J's own mods meaning they will have to make the mods/DLC and we will have to pay for them. Mods,DLC, extra content call it whatever you want but the bottom line is that we will have to pay for these mods/dlc and they will not be the same mods that PC has and that's even if 4J decides to create them because they will have to work on it and take time away from other matters such as updates and bug fixes. Can we at least let them finish the updates??
Ha come one people ! The xbox will never get "real" mods lile PC, in a way that the game is not meant to be patched by a third party like the PC version (actually even the PC version is not really "meant" to be patched but it can because it's on computer).
Minecraft Xbox will get DLC, that's gonna be just like the lost popular mods (adding new blocks, new features, extra content, etc...) and is probably gonna cost some (well deserved) MSPoints but could have a few free.
To resume, this whole PC vs Xbox war is because we're all jalous of each others version to a point... Xbox is always gonna be late and will never have all the possibilities of the PC version. And PC players will always play with more or less bugs, lags, and for most PC lower quality graphics plus all the boringness of the patching/reinstalling the game/repatching again the mods everytime it updates, etc...
Exept maybe for a few that got all three versions like me PC, Xbox and iPad... Well for me, it's the Xbox version i prefer without a doubt. Just personnal taste but love the easy fun and play without problems !
The people in this thread have a hard-on for their own definitions of mods and dlc. I can define it however I want, so I'm right. Yeah, you are right, but that mentality sucks.
no... nobody can define it however they want. Okay well i suppose they can, but that doesn't mean they're going to be right.
another thing that "really grinds my gears" is people that try and make it sound like they work for 4-J/mojang, by saying that, "4-J will never do this, or that"
and for that i have now only one question... > HOW THE HELL DO YOU KNOW?<
Because some people have a basic understanding of how intellectual property and copyrights work. The people who say "I made a Marvel Heroes skin pack for Minecraft, but 4J won't return my calls" don't have it. People who say "I made a texture pack, I think 4J can put it in the game" don't have it either. There is such an infinitesimally small chance of 4J ever using player created content that it might as well be considered "never." They have people who are working on skin packs. If they are going to do texture packs, they will have people do those. If they use something that a member of the community created, they run the risk of that member suing them for theft of intellectual property, so why open themselves up to that when they can just have their own people do it?
Most of the time when someone says 4J will never do that, it's because the suggestion is so unimaginably stupid that 4J really wouldn't ever do that. I guess for the sake of complete accuracy, the statement should be altered to read "4J likely won't do that if they have even the most tenuous understanding of what makes a company successful."
Say you are playing a game. Finished, complete, final product. You want the sky to be yellow instead of blue. Well, that's a mod. You modified the game. Short, simple, and sweet. Any modification to the existing final product is a mod.
Yeah, and somebody else can define that as DLC if it is downloadable and modifies the original game. What I'm saying is that it's pointless to argue two names for the same thing (which is common in this thread).
no... nobody can define it however they want. Okay well i suppose they can, but that doesn't mean they're going to be right.
Thanks for agreeing with me.
The point is, call it what you want it - but don't whine about what it means to you and insist that you are correct when both classifications of the same thing are correct. Its a downloadable modification to the game.
You seem to be a bit confused as to what Xbox Save modding is. Xbox Save modding is the ability to edit the Minecraft Inventory. An example is a world with a warehouse made of bedrock where inside there are many chest filled with duped items.
On Xbox JTAG/RGH (modded consoles so that can run unassigned code) there is the possibility to add textures like the PC has but no mods like tekkit OR similar.
Also all the rumors about flying mode I assure you , that are not true. Rumors about unlimited health are true but his also goes through game save tweaking so it is not a real mod.

A "mod" to a game is at the very least a work derived from the original game produced and distributed with the intent of changing something about the original game. While this MIGHT be an accepted practice on the PC, it is clearly not an accepted practice on the XBox. The only way anything is getting added on to the XBox version of Minecraft is if 4J adds it on. They will not do so without first obtaining the permission of Mojang to take the game in their own direction; and they will not, I'm confident, risk using any existing mod ideas from the PC without first ensuring that utilizing those ideas poses absolutely no risk to them regarding copyright, trademark or other commercial issues.
The difference between you and me, is that you speak from theory, i speak from practice. Peace.
So, in practice, you're saying that the only Save modding that goes on on the XBox involves people hacking into the Minecraft Inventory to dupe items? In practice, through the Terms of Use, Microsoft has reserved the right to ban people for a much broader range of transgressions than that.
The definitional debate over "mod" vs. DLC vs. 3rd-party add-on is somewhat irrelevant. Call me conservative; but the best way I know of to avoid difficulty completely is to only purchase for the XBox what is authorized by Microsoft for use on the XBox... and that is what I do in practice. I'm not so wrapped in re-writing a game to suit myself that I can't just play and enjoy a game written by someone else.
Since the parties to the agreement to port Minecraft to the XBox include Mojang, 4J, and Microsoft, the only way I see any "official" PC-like add-ons coming to MCXBLA is through 4J either writing or porting them (with Mojang's consent) and subject to certification/authorization by Microsoft. If the original PC-like "mod" was written by someone other than 4J, I'm sure that 4J would also have to enter into an agreement with them (similar to the one they've entered into with Mojang) in order to port their work onto the XBox.
Nobody has ever debated the fact 4J want to add mods, what people have been trying to get through to people is to just not expect things like Tekkit and Mo Creatures to be added to the game. 4J have stated that the sort of mods they are looking at are things like additional competative game modes, such as the capture the flag mode, they arnt planning on adding entire mod packs to the game.
Why shouldnt we have the right as users to ask 4JS to give us something similar to TEKKIT. Its obvious something alot of users would like. It makes good business sense for Mo or 4JS to contact the makers of Tekkit and say look we know you created the mod share it with us so we can get a DLC/addon pack to the basic Minecraft. They can negotitate business deals and come up with something the users want. Its not impossible.

You do know Mojang used the Infiniminer game as a developemnt source for Minecraft dont you. I dont see tekkit being any different. In fact its getting to the point where all I see is blocks to something the users want. I would gladly pay for the game Tekkit if it was put on the xbox as a separate brand from Minecraft.
Problems take technology forward. If you cant do it, someone else, somewhere else, always finds a solution.
I'm curious to know if i'm the only user on this board that does not want tekkit. If we ever got PC mods, which I doubt we will. It'd be Elemental Creepers, Mo creeps and weirdos, Timber Mod. Mainly just mods that add to the vanilla without changing the game completely.

trust me you are not the only one... The only thing even in that tekkit that interested me was Railcraft, which in essence just adds to the vanilla with out changing a whole lot...Just puts more function and more things you can do with rails... The rest of it I can careless about, since most of it does change it to not being minecraft anymore...O_o

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
I noticed in this twitter link that there was a specific mention made about skyblock... Providing we are able to destroy bedrock in creative, and a few other things I wont know about until I'm actually in a creative game on xbox, my first intention with this update is to destroy every single block on a map, save one in the center to rebuild from, and create and make availible for download a skyblock survival game!! I know it's going to take an absurb amount of time to do this, but it'll be soooo worth it.
