I notice some people tend to have just a bunch of mixed buildings in their world. I usually like stick with one or a few similar looking themes/build types.
For me its usually something along the lines of medieval or something ancient, it tends to suit minecrafts style more imo.
In all seriousness though, I usually just build whatever is on my mind at the time. To quote one of my favorite characters of all time....
"Do I really look like a guy with a plan? You know what I am? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it. Ya know, I just... do things."

lol, I like that quote... Kinda reminds me on how i build sometimes...
Usually I build a medieval to ancient age style of buildings/structures with my own twist. I am not really into historical type builds, just what i would believe would look good with a bit of semi-function into the build, or at least some back history of my own creation put into the build. So far though my skills in the style stink, but improving i guess. That's what Youtube is for no. To gather info in different ways to build, if not get some inspiration to put my own style/twist/flavour into what i do make.
Madnes64 holds quite a bit of the style, or at least one of the style i like attempting to similar to, hence inspiring me to build more into the design inside and out. Other than that anyone that has the edo period of style as well quite a few asian dynasty flare into it. The latter is a work in progress though... Still figuring that one out on my own as not many have tutorials on that style, or pointers for it. Then again i haven't looked hard enough yet, so I continue on my long search as I progress my building to essentially have my own inspired style eventually....:D

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Usually modern style with a lot of redstone doors and lights and other secret stuff. Although not many people think modern looks good on minecraft I think it does if you actually do it right.
Medieval.. Although I guess my houses look almost modern sometimes.
I hate when people do like present day with asphalt (black) roads with the yellow or white lines down the middle. We don't have cars.
I tend to build bridges, tunnels and rail tracks usually north to south or east to west. I like to travel faster than up and down jumping. If it means going through a mountain or over lava I still do it. Buildings wise anything goes ancient to modern all on the same map
i have only built a few different things on the few maps im on, but i usually stick with one main theme, organization, i get supplies easily available to get to later when i need them. mainly stone and glass, but one good build included villager type housing close to it with several farms. its all really been practice with ideas until this looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng and anticipated update happens.
I made a wood themed tree house area of my world, but other than that, I don't try to stick to a strict them ewhen building things, because usually my friends and I are doing our own things, and It's nice to see what they have done.

I need to give out more reputation. I'm not used to the system, but I see so many helpful posts. D: Sorry if I forget you!
I build log cabins and stuff. Nothing fancy. Most of my builds are just little shacks with secret doors, leading to massive underground structures. Think the little house on top of the research facility in resident evil 3 (the movie), and you have the right idea
Lol, I tend to do this with all of my houses. It's nice house with a bunch of stuff for quick use and to just look normal. Then a secret passage leading down, with more stuff. Then another secret passage..
I'm always worried that a friend is going to mine into my secrets or see my nameplate. Thankfully you can turn that off in the next update.
Mostly castles and medieval village style, but also log cabins and even in castles i still use a lot of redstone for awesome things, like portcullises, and just for time saving, like doors and minecart systems
Seriously? You made a minecart system and it saved you time? You are a better red-stoner (lol?) than me.
Back in the computer version i made massive minecart subway networks with interchanges and everything programmable from your start location with gates set up so different people using the system would not interfere with eachother, so doing minecart tracks around a smaller map like on XBox and in to my castle, etc is really fast to assemble.

How about you?

OT: Also like making beach-themed stuff.
