There is more Glowstone than you can see. Its harder to find, but you can find glowstone in caverns in the Nether too. One of the worlds I made, I stupidly put my portal at the bottom of a ladder way down on level 10. It spawned me inside a cavern underneath the "water line" (The lava sea). Took forever to find a way to the surface but I encountered glowstone in the natural caverns generated there several times.

I was going to mention that as well, but I only hinted at it since i have trouble obtaining... Although i like my idea for when the glowstone does run out. And yeah the nether is bigger than you would think. Above and below. I mean if you ended up in the middle layer where you can see lava lakes then yours would apply as well something i like to add to your post. Try the ceiling especially if you have not gone the full 128 height or close to it. There are sometimes more often than not caverns up there too, which is where my portal ended up since I built mine pretty high up in my overworld. So more or less it was almost a pain to get down to those lava lakes.
So always look everywhere even in places you wouldn't think there would be. It does not take a day for all the glowstone to be gone from the nether even with 8 players searching everywhere and gathering. Trust me like the person i quoted there is more than you would think in the nether.
Anyways I still like the idea i made to just add in the very least some more color to the nether than the strongholds that would come later on...

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
We have communal stores, diamonds are make yourself a pick then put the rest in the store. We have up to 8 players who play in the world so I feel there is a shortage of items like glowstones and pumpkins, With 8 players its also quite a small map which is why we went communal.
I like the earthquakes from that other mining game dont see why minecraft cant have them.
