I was wondering about this too, a while ago. After some research on the wiki I found that they don't have any use until 1.2.3, or somewhere around there. Like I said, I looked it up a while ago.
After looking it up again, I've found that the teleporting feature was first added in 1.9pre2, and could be crafted into eyes of ender in 1.9pre3. This means it's possible for it to have been brought forward, but I doubt it.
Yes, the ability to teleport was added in 1.9 pre 2. So we will not get this until 1.2.3 update or if 4j do decide to add a mini update in between 1.8.2 and 1.2.3 it might be in that.
What is the significance of the update numbers? More importantly why does it go from 1.8.2 to 1.2 to 1.9? Why are the numbers not chronological. When I first started playing and reading the forums I was beyond confused with all the update version numbers, and I would suspect others as well.

1.8.2 and 1.9 are BETA updates on the PC. After those, the official release version of the game came out. When the official release came out, they had to restart the numbering, thus it started at 1.0 again. The PC is now up to 1.3.2.

Were are getting 1.8 and we are skipping 1.9, 1.0.0 and 1.1 and going straight to 1.2.3. PC went from 1.8 to 1.9 to 1.0.0 to 1.1 to 1.2

Because that's the way minecraft was developed. First they did an indef version, then alaph, then beta, then official release (In that order). So when people are saying 1.8.2, the really mean 1.8.2 beta. And when they say 1.2.3, they are talking about 1.2.3 official release.

Is there anywhere i can watch a recorded version of this live stream?

They don't do that. It does Beta 1.8.2 - Beta 1.9 pre (which never was released, it ended up becoming 1.0 Release) - Release 1.2
All programmers use a way of identifying which version of the software you are up to. The numbers represent which patches and fixres have been applied to the programme. We arent getting 1.8 because they brought forward some of the fixes from later releases on the PC so I suspect they will renumber future releases too. Thats why we are getting 1.8.2 to say which version the software the release relates to.
Are we getting enderchests in this update or was it only the 3D chest animations?
Just the new animation, If we do get ender chests at all, it wil be a minimum of 2 updates away (I say "if" because 4j has stated that after 1.2.3 they will go there own way with developing MCXBLA)
In developing games/applications. There are different stages of development. I know the numbers are confusing but there should be a stage after the update number. I guess everybody got used to just calling those update by their number.
Right now, MC360 will be the equivalent of 1.8.2 Beta.
funny how xp didnt have a point so they removed it but enderballs will stay.
If they didn't then what would endermen drop? They can't just drop nothing because it wouldn't make since every other mob has a drop so why wouldn't endermen?
