We are getting BETA 1.8.2. Next update is 1.2.3, which was after the OFFICIAL release (version 1.0). Minecraft on xbox is still in the beta version right now.
How does an update go from 1.8. to 1.2 wouldnt that be going back a step?
It's confusing, I know. It stems from 1.8 being part of the PC Beta phase. The official first release of Minecraft on PC after the Beta started numbering at 1.0, so basically, the next update should add in everything from 1.9 Beta through to 1.2.3 Official versions (unless 4J opt to put in a mini 1.9 Beta type update in between).
So were really on 0.7 then it will go to 1.0.0? Thanks
I disagree. The makers of the game get the privilege of numbering their versions in a manner that has meaning for them. You're only adding to the confusion by trying to renumber them yourself.
Those are all you're ever gonna need to know and more. When in beta stage the PC went up to a pre-release of 1.9. At Minecon last year in november Mojang officially released Minecraft as a full fledged game. Making it go to 1.0.0 Full and not beta, therefore resetting the number for official versions.
the next update is 1.8 the actual version of pc "its" 2.3 but they cut off the version number because of the "beta" state, with final version/release they come the v 1.0
Minecraft went like this

After 1.2.3; MCXBLA may have a completely different numbering sequence than the PC since 4J have indicated that they want to take the game in it's own direction. Why complicate things? All that we really need to know is that MCXBLA 1.2.3 comes after MCXBLA 1.8.2, with a possibility of a small, as yet unannounced and unnumbered, update in between.
