Yes, either one I do will be done on a semi-small scale, as this just something to do while waiting for 1.8.2. But I will continue on after that comes out.
City if you work on the interior of the buildings at least as much as the exteriors. Too many big builds are more fun to just look from the outside than to explore

"Only the trees which you know are not trees for food you may destroy and cut down, to build siegeworks against the city that makes war with you, until it is subdued." (Deuteronomy 20:20 NKJV)

Yeah, I agree. If you're going to build a city, plan to go all the way. I much prefer see smaller but much more detailed cities over huge cities full of bland hollow buildings.
Definitely a village. Personally, I think a lot of cities end up looking the same unless you get really creative with the architecture. Plus, I'm a sucker for practical, useful builds.
when i play minecraft i get really attached to the beautiful forests and natural look of the map and find myself unwilling to destroy it. small villages look really nice when done well and can be made with the surrounding materials to match and keep that essence of natural beauty. skyscrapers and glass ruin all of that.
besides, when it really comes down to it those cities are just empty rooms while a village can be made warm and comforting.
I'm holding off for a city until when we get Anvil, because it opens up a lot of options for different size and shape buildings. I suggest a very detailed village with the use of different building materials, instead of just cobble stone and wooden planks. Be creative.
Go watch some voxlebox videos and look at their full on city builds. A city has got to have feel inside and out...and its the inside that takes the longest. Hell, I spent as much time and resource on the inside of my lodge as I did the outside just trying to make it feel like a place a person might wanna be in. More time, even.

City doesn't have to be modern....>< Look at the J.R.R.Tolkein Series in the cities they had with that middle ages style. Elven and Dwarven ones. I believe some elven cities would meld with the landscape giving the appearance to being a village, but be a grand cities among the forest...
I say either way as each has their flare depending on how you go about it. I personally don't really flatten land much for my builds, but I do terraform a little to fit certain things, if not minor changes for specific structures like walls... Just think a village should be small, and a city should be big. So what ever you are in the mood for making in that area would suit that area...:D

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
yeah, i was taking cities as sky scrapers and technological eye sores... i guess if youre doing a walled city it would be nice. just make sure everythings fully furnished
City is more amusing to have.

My vote: Village.
My vote: Cities

Couldn't agree with you more.
