I'm guessing this is completely bogus, but though I'd post it here for anyone to either confirm or disprove. I'm pasting it here unedited:
Grow cactus 37%Go to sand and dig out 2 down and 6 wide then plant a tree (white) and put than in a hole dug 3 down it the mid and place water under tree then place lava around the tree and it will have to all ways have lite so put some candles around it or it will never grow only have leaves showing or this dose not work then leave for a few game days and pick up lava and dig to bottom of tree and there should be 1 pice of cactus!
wait what? I don't really get what you pasted here but it sounds like an awful lot of work for 1 piece of cactus.
The idea is that you could use it on a world that has no natural cactus. The kid's writing is near impossible to understand - which makes me think it's completely bogus.
It does sound like a ridiculous claim. But, then again, so does a block transmuter, and those work. We're all just guessing here, if you want to know for sure try it out yourself. My guess is it's not going work, but who knows. If you just want a cactus for green dye, build a block transmuter, make some green wool, and dupe the hell out of it. It's either that, wait for the update, or use an inventory editor.

But I always thought it was impossible to change the qualities of wood and wool blocks. But I was proven wrong. I have a world with no cactus but a bunch of lime green wool... So I am going to look into this.
his point is that you don't get inventory edit on xbox
Not directly in Minecraft. How long have you been playing MCXBLA? People have been modding inventories since about a week after the game was released. Don't give me some moral lecture about ToS, I'm just saying it's either use an inventory editor, wait for creative mode, or build a block transmuter.
Yes, it works on Xbox, more specifically, it's altering the save itself. No, I'm not telling you how to do it, the forum frowns upon that kind of discussion.

Is that a serious statement? There are entire communities, large and active, completely dedicated to it. It's only more common on PC because it's a lot easier. Soft mods on the Xbox are still pretty damn easy though, they're just not taken very seriously by JTAGers and .ISO modders.

"Grow cactus 37%"? What does that mean? It grows in 3 pieces, so one piece would be 33.33%. does it grow a second nub? Anyway, wouldn't the lava just burn the tree down or is that the point? This really is one of the most confusing things I have ever read or tried to read in my lifetime.

Riiiiight. I already clearly explained that it is possible to have an entire world on the Xbox's smaller maps that have NO naturally spawning cactus.
I had a world with no cacti, which means no green dye. It's terrible.
