Don't get me wrong, great company, already one of my favourite gaming companies.
But when it comes to updates for a game like this, I think the community deserves a constant stream of information.
Questions should be answered constantly, pictures should be added constantly (and no not pictures of your guido friend ditching out on a party, hopefully whoever reads this knows the reference).
I think with such a respectful and kind community, 4j should be jumping at an opportunity to communicate with their fans.
One thing I will say, is that I don't expect updates on holidays, in canada, thanksgiving was sunday or monday (I don't celebrate it, so I dunno), and I would not expect them to update their twitter.

They are silent because there's simply nothing to say. They're waiting just like we are, and they will most likely begin working on 1.9 once 1.8 is out. (Assuming they are doing an update between 1.8 and 1.2) but otherwise they are most likely taking a well deserved break. If you think about it, it's really nice they are choosing to get the game up to the pc. It's already had a crapload of sales, so nothing is stopping them from simply leaving the game at 1.8.
It could be taken as a bad sign seeing as how 4J has been pretty vocal in the past, it seems that they were trying to match mojang with the give-and-take between company and community. To suddenly go silent would surely give pause to a few people. I've been growing weary of 4J recently their selective silence on certain subjects (Estimated release times, vague answers about looking into map size but no specifics) has given me quite a few headaches.

Yeah not a clue what you are on about, nothing was ever postponed as nothing was announced until they actually sent it for cert testing.
