When 1.8 hits will our worlds before the update get bigger?
No, the world's are not getting any bigger with this update. They may, however, appear to be a little taller in that clouds are being moved to the top layer of the map.
Nope no suprise. It is because of the Xbox its self. I'm sure 4J would have made it bigger when it was released if they could have.
Oh of course! I forgot that the xbox is too weak to handle anything bigger than we got now, but my 5 y/o laptop can run Minecraft pretty darn decently...
Yepp, it sure is the xbox alright!

I was speaking with a friend just last night who is a computer programmer and who has played Minecraft extensively on the PC. He believes the major difference is that there is no option NOT to autosave on the PC. The XBox allows the autosave to be turned off; thereby requiring the system to retain any changes the player makes in a temp or memory-based file until the player decides to permanently save over the file on the hard drive. Turning the autosave off is one of the major defenses hosts have against being griefed sine they can exit the world without saving the damage done by griefers. Personally, I would rather retain the option to turn the autosave off than have an "unlimited" world where I have to carry multiple maps to find my way and might have to walk for 20 minutes at a time just to get from built up area to built up area. Unlimited worlds can get too large to really be useful or fun to play in.

Given that the tech inside an xbox is 7 years old, I don't see how your comment about your laptop has anything at all to do with whether such tech can run significantly larger worlds.
Look, it's not hard; use the search engine. There have been a plethora of threads that cover exactly why the xBox is incapable of running significantly larger maps. Staff from 4J have given interviewers and have all but specifically explained why. (And no, it has nothing to do with file save size, or splitscreen, or some unsourced comment that M$ wouldn't let them have bigger files because they are an arcade title).
Are there changes coming down the road that might allow for the enlarging of our worlds? Sure, if you used the search function you would know we are getting ANVIL sooner or later - that will significantly impact the size of the swap-file UpUp mentions above. Additionally, there is talk of rentable servers (which would move the largest drain on the xBox'x resources off to a dedicated computer).
But he's not an xbox programmer.
The problem is (the 512mb) memory limitation. 4J CEO Burns said so. Autosave, file size, and a dozen other excuses people have come up with has nothing to do with the size of the world.
If you can't build your dream thingamajig within xbox's 154 acres something's wrong.
People only want "infinite" worlds so they can wander around and gawk at the scenery. But all the biomes just repeat themselves, and they are all alike- you've seen one desert you've seen them all. It's a mental thing and not an actual impediment to playing the game.
Knowledge is power, guard it well.
