I thought this might be a fun poll while we're waiting for the update. I'm a bit of a nomad and like to carry a bed with me to reset my spawn point close to whatever I'm working on at the time. I still can't bring myself to just place my bed out on the open, so it generally means that I wind up making mini-bases all over my map that I generally destroy once I'm done with that particular task. What philosophy do you have about using a bed to reset set your spawn point? Do you have any additional tips about managing your spawn point when playing in the different modes of the game?
I have done multiple options. Sometimes I'm a nomad (if I'm playing on hard mode) or other times I just make one bed and I don't sleep and just build for weeks straight (game time)

I need to give out more reputation. I'm not used to the system, but I see so many helpful posts. D: Sorry if I forget you!
When I am out exploring, I just dig a small cave at night and place a torch and a bed and go to sleep. Problem with that is I take the bed in the morning so if I die, I get sent back to my original spawn point. (cue the Exit Without Saving!)
I have one bed hidden in a mountain because my original spawn point is a trap that you can't get out of unless you have a block. But it's close enough to some tracks so I don't have to go far to get places fast, and I keep any supply's that I will need for a respawn. Although I mostly play on peaceful, but when I play on hard I'm always indoors at one of my many mob traps.
I have a bed in a temporary spot, but will make a permanent home when the next update comes out. Then I'll probably dream up a bigger home and move my bed again.

I tend to be the bottom two on that list depending on the circumstances. I will set up many homes with beds, but usually if i am exploring or venturing far to somewhere else a bed is something i keep handy for when i need it.

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
I rarely make a bed at all. Just build my home base by initial spawn and connect all my projects by underground rail. I rarely die even on hard, so getting back to my current project is generally a non-issue.
I usually scope out the map first, then find a nice place to set up, depending on the terrain. I try to find a central region, with forests and caves nearby. Waterfalls are my favorite. Swim up, and dig in. ;-)

I have taken to doing this after playing with my buddy a good bit now. Safe houses all over the damn place.
We would travel to a mine, build a safe house and get to mining, that way we die; well we dont have that far of a walk.
Before that I would forget to sleep and die then have to walk halfway across my map and lose my gear.
I myself have a house bed and a surface bed--one used for having "sky fog" over "dark fog;" the other for making it day.
Stay fluffy~
Me too.
Wow. didn't even notice that until you mentioned it. Still relevant... even the part about "while we wait for the next update" LOL
