Sorry, not to be rude or anything, but it looks to me as if you put a lot of effort into a pointless thread. Couldn't you have just posted it in this thread? Again, I don't mean to be rude.
I enjoyed the post, but I have to disagree. The first farm almost anyone first starting out in a new world can/will create is a wheat one. All it takes is a few seeds which can be obtained almost anywhere, any water source, some dirt, and a little wood for making the hoe and some fence. Easy to do and I usually have a small one established by the second day and often on the first. If the right location of a water source presents itself, I often have one right inside my shelter, which is great for also having an emergency fishing hole right inside the house (once I get a couple of string to make a fishing pole). I'm far more likely to obtain all these required items earlier than I'm likely to get melon seeds from a dungeon or mineshaft.
Also, it may take a couple of Minecraft days for enough of the wheat to grow to be able to make bread without bonemeal; but from what I've seen online, even with bonemeal, melons can take almost as long. The bonemeal just makes the stalk grow instantly, not the melon itself.
Mushroom stew is also something that is dead easy to grow; and the requisite mushrooms to get started can sometimes be found before the end of the first day (particularly if you spawn near a dense forest biome). It also has the advantage of providing more nourishment per serving than either melons or bread. Mushrooms are also the only non-meat food source in the 1.8.2 that can just be found in a fully grown state. It may be not quite as plentiful to find right off the bat as the meat sources (cows, pigs, and chicken-ducks); but if a person is lucky enough to find a source of more than one of each shroom that first day, they can be eating stew that first night (if they've done a lot on the first day and need to quickly replenish their food bar).

They didn't have Melons as an option. Naturally I had to speak up for the greatest food in the game.
This is partially a joke guys. It is supposed to be entertaining.
I simply believe melons are best because of quantity. You can get a large amount in a short period of time without replanting, crafting, or cooking. It is the simplest and most efficient in my eye.
He explained the food saturation and gave point values, however melons can be collected the fastest of all the food. No hunting, cooking, or crafting is required. Stacks on stacks on stacks of melons will keep you alive forever.QUANTITY

Mushrooms are gross and have to be crafted with wood bowls... LAME MELONS WIN
I'm actually really excited for Melons I look forward to having them and my #1 food source ^ u ^
I love how you got your point across, it was fun Kept me reading!
Always a Mushroom soup fan though so I doubt I'd quit making them.
And lastly, thank you for understanding the point of this post. Not to "troll", but to inform in a fun and educational way. Melons deserve the more recognition.

You know what, I didn't even see the "before 1.8" part in the poll title. My bad. & I agree with it being the best food in the game. But you know what? I can't stand Watermelon in real life.

Yes. One more joins the ranks of the Melon believers.
I have farms for all so i don't care. I eat what I feel like when I feel like eating it. Except I wont be eating steak since I can't bread cows. But I have all my eggs ready to be hatched after the update.Mushrooms growing freely in my mine, 500 sugarcane and wheat growing at a time.

You're in the wrong place. We're talking about XBLA Minecraft.

Whoops.... didn't even think about that. Melons are still lousy though.
Shoo now. Shoo, go away. Go on, get! lol
Too rare!
Steak is good, but hunting is time consuming.
Melons are the best.
It's SO BEAUTIFUL
You can also put ice under the water stream to make the melons travel faster therefore increasing the amount of slices you get per hour.
