Why do people keep talking about it catching up to the PC?
Like Geneo and I said, they don't plan on trying to catch up with the PC anymore. Once we hit 1.2.3, Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition will become it's own game, not a copy of the PC version. So they'll never catch up to the PC in a sense, but that's because they're making a different game, not from lack of trying.
In the future, Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition and PC Minecraft will be two completely different games.
Theres no problems with us giving our opinion on it because he did ask us for our opinion on it. We are just adding a bit to the conversation. And to add to the "Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition and PC Minecraft will be two completely different games.", I highly doubt that. I know that everyone keeps bringing up there will be Xbox exclusive stuff and it will go in a seprete direction after 1.2.3, I doubt that they will go as far as to make it completely different then the PC version. I can see them adding a mode or two to the game and maybe some other features. However it will still be minecraft. Really how much more different can they actually make it?
We read the posts. Just because you comment on it doesn't mean others can't!
It's just kind of pointless when people post saying "It will never catch up to the PC" when 4J has no intentions of doing so in the first place based on what they've said. Most people still think they're trying to match the PC, but they're not. People shouldn't expect it to.

After 1.2.3, I just hope they pull SOME stuff from the later updates. There are just some features I would be sad of not having, such as Villager trading, Enderchests, and the Wither.

But many, like myself, that run successful servers need ender chests so the map can be 10 times better but that's just my opinion -Static
I think they need the Xbox to eventually catch up to where the PC is currently before they split them. The Xbox version is incomplete right now. It's missing a lot of blocks, crops, and general important things. If they do plan to split after TU12, I think only the PC would start it's own thing, the Xbox would continue to update following the PC until it hits 1.6 or whatever the PC is at right now.
While we're on the subject, has Mojang said how they would split up? I'm just curious if that means they will add different story lines or just different items.

At the pace the PC version is going, I really doubt it will ever catch up. TU12 is suppose to be where the 360 Edition starts splitting off and begin creating content exclusively for the console version. Like the picture frames from the PC, 4J Studios can still add in what they believe would be a good addition. It's not like the 360 Edition is going to start changing overnight anyways. Over the next few years, we'll just have to wait and see what they have in store for everyone.
The PC is hampered because it still has to work within the minimum PC system requirements, and it's Java. The new One version will have much more power and ram to work with, and a much more capable programming language. As I've stated before, the One can run the current PC version while idling. The One version won't be hampered like the PC version is- 'HD graphics' and 'bigger worlds' are just the tip of the iceberg of what MC will be in the future.
In my mind the question isn't "Will the 360 ever catch up to the PC?" (No, it won't).
The question is "Will the PC ever be able to catch up to the One's version?" I think once the install base of the One is big enough, RIP 360 version, and the PC's reign as 'the best MC version' will be over.
Edit:
For instance, with the increased ram and power, it could be possible to change the blocks in MC. What if the One version went to blocks that weren't roughly a meter (3 feet) square, but much smaller, like 1 foot square? That would increase dramatically the detail of terrain, buildings, trees, mobs, heck everything, 9 times. You'd probably have to increase the inventory capacity also, but the One could handle it. MC with 9 times the detail…. boggles the mind.

Um, one humongous problem with this. The Xbox One is not the end-all be-all of gaming. By the time the Xbox One is released, it will barely even compare to gaming PCs. It's just the way it's always been with console gaming, and no, just cause it's being released by Microsquish doesn't mean the Xbox One is going to change that. And no, there is no minimum that Mojang is beholden to when it comes to the PC version; they can, and will, do whatever they want. And yes, that means the minimum requirements for vanilla PC Minecraft will continue to rise over time. You can't raise the minimum requirements on a console, though; you can't even raise the maximum. You can't change it. With a PC game, you will always, ALWAYS, have more freedom as a developer.
So, neither Xbox version is ever going to be fully caught up to the PC version. And other than the Ender Dragon fight, I'm not sure we'll actually see much exclusive content on the 360 version, simply because they are already hard at work getting the Xbox One version ready for launch. Yes, they've promised to update the 360 version, but that's not the same as adding in more exclusive stuff.
It will never catch up as long as PC keeps being updated, as PC updates faster and has a head start.
u are aware snapshots are not full updates and that when 4j gives us updates we are getting things from later updates as well. infact we get much more in our updates than pc does. some of the things like blocks get pulled way ahead. check the update history if you dont agree.
that being said it will never catch up in the way people compare them, since many game mechanics can be added through mods and since the pc version is very open source. and mojang is really the only company deciding over updates there are far fewer hoops to jump through. i believe thats one reason 4j keeps speed balling some of the more desired aspects.
but the fact is they are not meant to be equal. they are meant to be two stand alone games with similarities yes. but as many differences as similarities.
What if Mojang said: "The next MC update will demand that your PC have a minimum of a 1 gig video card, quad-core I7 processor (or equivalents), and 8 gigs of ram. And no, you can't 'Optifine' your way out of meeting these requirements."
So the 90% of players that don't have a 'gaming PC' will not be able to play MC… at least until they buy an expensive gaming PC.
I'm not saying that a One (or a PS4) is more powerful than a 'gaming PC'.
I'm saying most MC players don't have, and can't afford, a 'gaming PC'. There's your problem.

I see where you are coming from. However, keep in mind that Mojang can cater to both crowds; they can keep the minimum requirements low, but add optional extras that you can turn on if you have the power (something they already do, in fact).
Console gaming has plenty of advantages, btw, so don't get me wrong there. But raw power really isn't one that can be counted as a console advantage in the old console vs pc gaming debates. Now, when a console first arrives, you can sometimes get a better cost to power ratio . . . at least at first. Never takes long for gaming PCs to catch up.
That being said, MCX1 ought to be able to start out on an even keel with the PC edition, simply due to the difference in power between a 360 and One (and that is pretty cool). The point I have to disagree with, however, is that the Xbox One edition will ever really be ahead of the PC edition in terms of performance, etc. MCX1 has a much better chance of developing some strong unique features, though, since hopefully they won't have to worry about playing catch-up in any meaningful way.

Now there we agree!
I don't think some people can get their head around the fact that there can be different versions of Minecraft- like there's different versions of solitaire.
And they already are different.
Different platforms.
Different control schemes.
Different features.
Different programming language.
The PC will have features that fit it (and what they can program), the One (should) have it's own 'unique features' that fit it's platform and capabilities. Some will like the feature set of one, some the other…. but they'll never be the same! But they are and will be different and trying to compare them feature-for-feature is pointless, as is wasting time trying to figure out if or when one will 'catch up' the other.
As a hardened PC man with an xbox 360 stuck in the corner in case theres a game only released on the 360, I must say I like the 360 version as opposed to the pc version.
I bought the xbox version first ( must have been a brainstorm ) the day before yesterday and played it and got hooked, I always thought it was a kids game (becacause of the 80,s graphics ) but the mechanics go much deeper as I found out.
Anyway decided to buy the PC version but found that much more difficult to play, mainly due to the crafting techniques, (I may be wrong ) however decided to go back to the 360 version and haveing spent all day today playing, (mainly bulding my new home) Ive come to building a minecar system and couldnt find for the life of me how to make a tripwire hook, so Ive left a forum post but now believe its because thay dont have it yet on the 360???, is that correct?.
Ive always believed that the pc has the advantage over the 360 because the graphice always appear better to me, but I have got a high end pc and what with mods excectra, the pc has it, but the graphics on the 360 are the same so game play is similar but better on the 360, I like using a controller and use one on the 360 and the PC, but the with the PC, its a pain in the bum moving bits and piece in the crafting menu with the controller, so its a mixture of controller and KB and mouse in the PC version.
I eagerly await your comments, not a war just constructive please.
The Xbox Edition was released a year after the PC Edition. Although the Xbox Edition has been updating at a similar pace to the PC Edition, the PC Edition has also continually updated, so the Xbox Edition remains about a year behind the PC; that is, if you look at tutorials and videos for the PC that are about a year old, you'll see that they are more like the Xbox Edition is today as far as available features go. As you play more, you will develop a sense of what features the PC has that the Xbox is unlikely to have yet.
For the Xbox to "catch" the PC, the pace of updating the PC version would probably have to slow down at bit since the port onto the Xbox involves basically reprogramming the game in C++ (the PC version is written in Java). It is also unlikely that Mojang would release code to 4J for conversion before they actually released it on the PC version. The need for Certification of updates for the Xbox also slows down the rate of updating and probably also limits the number of updates that can be issued over a specific period. There are numerous other factors that come in to the equation - the limited RAM and processing power of the Xbox 360 is a biggie. 4J Studios, who are programming the Xbox Edition, have also indicated that they would like to take the Xbox Edition in it's own direction after they get it up to the PC Version 1.2.3. We aren't at 1.2.3 yet, although we should get there when this next updated comes out. Some features of later PC updates (1.3.1 and 1.4.2 have already been brought forward and some more are scheduled to come out in the next update. How much ultimately 4J will be allowed to deviate away from whatever direction the PC version takes remains to be seen.
I personally love playing on the Xbox in splitscreen mode where I can interact with my friends in the same room and see their portions of the screen along with my own. I don't care about adding in a bunch of plug ins - many of which don't work well and/or don't work well or at all with each other. I don't care about role playing on 100-player servers. I enjoy sitting in my livingroom for an hour with my friend's little kids (while I babysit them) and playing a game with them that is just fun and not super violent.
I seriously doubt that the PC version will 'fall behind' so to speak with performance compared to the Xbox one. My laptop has 8GB of RAM and I can do everything on MC just fine. My real concern with features between the two is that I feel the 360 version is being left out from some key things that the PC is getting; such as horses, all the redstone changes, ender chests, and trading.
Theres no problems with us giving our opinion on it because he did ask us for our opinion on it. We are just adding a bit to the conversation.
