So basically, i'm not starting a war here guys (i know it's usually what happens everytime we talk about Minecraft or iPhone, etc...). I own Minecraft on PC, Xbox and iPad. And personnaly, i prefer the Xbox Edition a lot. I'm not saying it's better (actually it's kind of late lol), but i just love the easy playing no problem of the console way of gaming ;-)
My concern is i see so many updates coming on PC edition, with the 1.4 update, and the coming ones, with so many stuff in it (like the beams, the witches, etc...) that sometimes it's kind of frustrating playing on Xbox and i wonder:
- Will the Xbox edition catch up the PC version of Minecraft or will it allways be behind ?
- When will we have the 1.2.3 update and the next ones ? Did 4JStudios made most of the boring long work with the 1.8.2, the biggest update of Minecraft, and will bring new updates very often new (like every month or two) ? Or are they going like the release the 1.2.3 in 3 or 4 months and be late ?
- After 1.2.3, will the Xbox version be considered good enough, or are they going to continue updating intil 1.4 or more ? And will they bring theme pack, mods, etc... on it ? 4JStudios mentioned some exclusive content and a different direction starting 1.2.3. Are they going to surprise us with incredible content ?
I really hope they are going to keep up the good work that they have done so far, and that now that the 1.8.2 update is done they are going to speed up the updates to catch on PC version. Why ? Because Xbox version is AWESOME, and there's 4 millions sales already in only half a year. And i'm guessing many milions more to come. Plus all the Microsoft points we're willing to spend on customs mods, themes, etc...
So basically, what's your opinion and what do you think the future of Minecraft Xbox 360 will be ?
Thanks a lot, forgive my poor English, and Minecraft is AWESOME whatever is the OS
Here's some diamonds to celebrate the coming 1.8.2 update:
We know for sure they are updating up to 1.2.3. After that, they will probably still update the game, but we don't know how much stuff we will get that is from the PC version, and how much stuff we will get that will be exclusive and different. Even if they decide to keep their updates as close to the PC version as possible, this version will never be on par with the PC version. It would always be a little behind. As for planned updates right now, the next one will probably be a bug fix. After that, 4J said they may do a smaller update between 1.8.2 and 1.2.3. If they don't, then they will be going straight to 1.2.3.
Your first question is really a no brainer. The Xbox version cannot possibly completely catch the PC version unless Mojang releases their new codes to 4J even as he is developing it and before they release the features on PC. This is not likely to happen. Mojang will write their version on the game and release it first, and then, perhaps, release their code to 4J for subsequent porting to the XBox.
However, 4J have indicated that they would like to take the XBox version of the game in their own direction after the 1.2.3 update; so if 4J actually do this, it seems more likely that the two versions will morph over time into essentially two different games.
This should answer your questions perfectly. Quoted from an article/interview on G4 with 4J CTO Paddy Burns. They have no intention of keeping up or catching up to the PC. It's the Xbox 360 Edition, not PC Minecraft on the Xbox 360.
Ultimately, the 4J team's biggest goal is to catch up to the PC version of Minecraft...and then break away in an entirely different direction. The final release version of the PC game is the ideal, but future content beyond that is more a matter of delivering experiences that suit the platform. The Xbox 360 may not be able to go bigger than the PC, but that doesn't mean it's always going to exist as a "lesser" product by comparison, or even that it does right now.
"Currently what we're doing is obviously the 1.8.2 update [from the PC beta period] followed by the 1.2.3 update [from the final release version]. After that point, we're sitting down with Mojang and taking a look at where things are going and where things should be going next with it," Burns revealed. "Notch is also quite keen that we add in specific content for the Xbox which will not be on the PC, so we need to discuss that as well once we're at that point."
I think the 1.8 update took so long was because it changed the game mechanics. They had to add a hunger mechanic and change the spawn mechanics for animals.
I think the 1.2.3 update won't be as long, but won't come quickly either. They have to add a new mob to the game, more biomes, and a new dimension.
Forgive me if I am out of line... But how would you make this game different from the PC version exactly? To be honest the only thing I could think of is along the lines of xbox only mobs or something to the effect. Don't hate me for being less well versed in the minecraft universe as the rest of you. I basically started playing this game when it released on the 360 since my pc can't handle even the lowest settings without freezing on me.

There is a lot they could do.
They could add different biomes, items, mobs, dimensions (like the nether), game modes (like Capture the Flag), etc. Once they hit 1.2.3, they're going to sit down with Mojang to see what they can add to the Xbox 360 edition that is unique to it.
Probably not due to the different corporations, coding, etc. Most likely the xbox will always be behind PC in features, updates, etc. Due to microsoft's restraints on this matter.
Well I hope they put in some of the 1.3.1 or whatever its called that deals with Emeralds and trading with villagers. That sounds pretty cool and I wish we could dig up more stuff anyway.
i really hope that 4j (after the next xbox update) will take minecraft in a whole new direction so the experience playing on the xbox will be different from pc
I don't think the Xbox 360 version will ever be able to catch up with the PC version. The PC is able to update at a much higher rate then the Xbox could ever dream to do. However, I like the idea of the Xbox splitting off into its own direction after it reaches a certain point. There are many features that would be great of the Xbox that wouldn't work well on the PC. None come to mind but it would definatley be cool if the Xbox version opened up new experiences for people to play.
it will eventually isnt the PC at 1.9.6, if it is , we should be caught up by next christmas.im thinking and hoping. but i might be wrong. Also i herd a rumor that xbox could be getting special feature that the PC wont get till later. So xbox might be at a advantge one day.
Technically, 360'll never catch up to PC. There's going to be a point where they diverge and 360 will become a separate entity. My guess is this will happen when most of the major mechanics have been fully implemented.
... But how would you make this game different from the PC version exactly?
If you read the interview ( http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/727636/building-a-better-minecraft-bridging-the-pc-and-console-gap/ ) it says stuff like:
"In short, Burns sees more of a competition-oriented future for the Xbox 360 Minecraft than the stock PC game offers. "Being in a living room is markedly different from being at a desk with a PC. What I'm hearing a lot of with the Xbox game is the family playing with the kids and the parents together," he said."
And:
""We'd like to do things that could be played together in a slightly more competitive way than just building in Minecraft."
Course he also says:
"...but future content beyond that is more a matter of delivering experiences that suit the platform. The Xbox 360 may not be able to go bigger than the PC, but that doesn't mean it's always going to exist as a "lesser" product by comparison, or even that it does right now."
SO:
Will the xbox ever catch up? No.
Will the xbox ever equal the PC? NO.
Will the PC ever equal the xbox? NO.
Should we keep trying to compare the two? Hell no! They're going to be like Jeep and Ford. While they're both "automobiles", they'll be two different versions of automobiles. (Thank goodness!) That's not a bad thing!
I think it will be updated to include potions etc. but then break away on its own course, some additions may come over like new mobs etc. but generally the gap will only increase
Why do people keep talking about it catching up to the PC?
Like Geneo and I said, they don't plan on trying to catch up with the PC anymore. Once we hit 1.2.3, Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition will become it's own game, not a copy of the PC version. So they'll never catch up to the PC in a sense, but that's because they're making a different game, not from lack of trying.
In the future, Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition and PC Minecraft will be two completely different games.
