I'd be heartbroken if we didn't. Spruce wood + birch planks = very nice.
I hope they bring it forward to the 1.2.3 update.
It is possible to forward some stuff from 1.2.5 to our 1.2.3 update. Also, I'm pretty sure there is an update in between 1.8.2 and 1.2.3(mentioned in article somewhere) Possibly Nether Fortresses and End portals?

Like I said, we may or may not get it.
4J's plan is to go straight from 1.8.2 to 1.2.3. They have mentioned on their Twitter that they're thinking of doing a smaller update in between because of how impatient people have been for 1.8.2, but right now the plan is still 1.8.2-->1.2.3.
