That would be cool. There was a video on MineTV about a server that recreated their map pixel by pixel in the game world, and then built a huge floating city above it, so that when you looked down from the viewing platform, it was like looking at a huge map. That was cool.
Another thing that I think would be helpful is the ability to put place markers on your map. (This cave is cool, but I'm fully loaded up right now. I'll mark it so I can check it out when I come back.)

I thought about that as well. It would be extremely helpful. Also it could allow for making treasure maps and such to make quests for other players, but eh...if it was ever updated to do so it'd probably be the last thing on their list of things to fix/improve.

Haha, i had a very similar idea, but got discouraged when i realized how large i would have to make it. Im gonna have to look that one up.
+1 to the map marker idea as well. I've gotten into the habit of building a small tower about 10-15 blocks tall, single block, then lighting it up with some torches and a sign reminding me of the good find. I havent lost a mine yet!

I'm neutral. I personally enjoy being forced to memorize the lay of the land, both on map, and in game.
It brings another level of challenge that I really enjoy.
But more options, the better right? You can never have too many options in video games, if you ask me.

In a later update, you can stick it in a frame. But it would be pretty useless.
