Mining machines?
Programmable robots?
Computers?
Flying machines (when you can fly like Superman already)?
If you automate everything, how can you say you're "playing" the game?
Well the first three are more of a programmer thing. In ComputerCraft, it's not like the robots do everything automatically. The fun is in programming the robots to do whatever you want them to. You could have them start mining out a quarry of any specific size you wanted.
Same thing with the computers. You don't just connect them to a door or whatever and they magically work. You have to actually write a program and run it on said computer.
Honestly, I don't see this becoming a reality, but it would be awesome if it did. Most people don't have the patience for something like this, you have to be truly interested in programing to want something like this mod. I doubt it would sell very well as DLC, but I can always dream.
I rather like the idea of a less destructive and expensive way to mine by machine or block. I am also resisting the urge to post about the glue idea since it has nothing to do with the topic of this thread. I would post a new thread just about that, but I do not want to seem like I am in any way stealing credit.
You can already make a mining machine that uses TNT and losses blocks in the process so it is not that disruptive to have a slower, but easily controlled, cheaper, and non-destructive way to do the same thing. Even if it had a slot for a pick and required one to mine things while using its durability would be great. (or a renewable way to get sand so cannons are cheaper to operate.)

I've been saying this ever since I first heard about slime balls.
