What the hell is redstone? j/k j/k, i ignore it because im not using it yet. Not until i start on my castle gate anyways; Gotta build the rest of it first.
Umm, i have to say none of the above. I gather all resources when im mining regardless of how much i already have.
This, when I actually play survival how it's "supposed" to be played, which is very rarely. When I am mining legitimately I tend to be hoarder. If my regular location for a resource is full, I'll collect it anyway and throw it into a miscellaneous chest. If my misc. chests are full, I make another one, I have a lot of misc. chests.
But, 90% of the time I play Minecraft, I ignore every resource. Hell, I ignore mining completely!
I ignore/avoid gravel, which is a shame, because I always ALWAYS find myself wishing I had some later on, to navigate through the nether, to make flint and steel or arrows, to fill in a lava lake...
redstone for sure. it takes longer compared to others to mine and i only need like 10 or 15 for my ENTIRE game. i really only make a few hidden doors, so i don't need much.
the only resource i obtain, i dont know why, is leather, i really dont see a use for it when i can make armor pretty easy from stronger materials, unless of course somehow by the grace of 4J they add horses in which we can use leather to make saddles to ride them, then i will have a use for them.

After I have enough I stop mine coal, unless I run out of torches in the mines.

I do the same I collect everything. This game takes full advantage of OCD. (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder)

For me, it's sand and sandstone, simply because I don't need glass or sandstone.
