New maps started after the 1.8.2 release using the same seed used in 1.7.3 will generate differently due to the new biomes added. If u are looking forward to the 404 challenge in 1.8 then I suggest u create the world now. And then letting it only generate a little then save and exit. Same goes for any other map that has any land feature u would like to preserve such as the awesome half circle beach surrounded by huge mountains in the middle of the map in the seed "Paul" the seed I use. Hope this helps a little
If people don't know this by now then I really don't know what to say. There have been numerous threads(that's putting it lightly) about this since 1.7.3 came out on this section of the forum. There were even a few threads when this section was actually created.
As far as i'm concerned, as long as I can find a map that has at least one nice mountain range, a ravine, mineshafts and a village. I'll be all set. Strongholds will just be a plus find.

I hope I can find a map like that as well but w/our current world size our chance of that happening on a map are slim to say the least
After responding to upteen threads on this issue already... and even laying out a detailed experiment in the works that will likely prove all of it... I OFFICIALLY GIVE UP!! If people don't understand the options (both positives and perils and pitfalls) they have in making a new world either before or after the update by now, they NEVER will.
I'm not sure if someone else already mentioned this, but can't you just clear your system cache. This will delete updates and you can sign in offline to regenerate old seeds prior to 1.8.2.

It would take you back to the original release version, not 1.7.3.
Oh alright, but what's the difference between seeds in 1.6.6 and 1.7.3?
Nothing, but you won't have skins or pistons, you may have other bugs as well. I always clear my cache when I'm done playing that way I can re-update next time I launch the game and fix redstone glitches. One time I forgot about it and didn't sign into Live. I had the weird invisible-ish cape glitch as well as the invisible mobs with funky outlines. I think it might have been because I normally use a skin.

No what I meant was, after the update, if I wanted a seed prior to 1.8.2 like "Glacier." Couldn't I just just clear my cache, then regenerate one of these "cool seeds" offline and download the update again? This will give me the old seeds with update features.

Ohhhh, well yes, that's a possibility. Not sure if you'll get the terrain generation features though. You definitely won't if you explore the whole map.
EDIT: Oh, forgot about that part. ^^^ It will be a huge pain to find clay, if you're a survival kind of guy. If you don't care about achievements or leaderboards you can just give yourself clay with creative though.

Yeah that's the only problem I'm seeing, is clay generation. But like both of you said, if people don't mind using creative, it could be a easy fix. Idk lol just a suggestion.

As I said, clearing your cache will take you back to the original version of MCXBLA, which was 1.6, then you'll be asked to update through to 1.8.2. I don't think you can update just to 1.7.3.
The terrain generation didn't change much between 1.6 and 1.7.3; but it must have changed a bit. When the 1.7.3 update came in, I had a number from a 1.6 seed that I tried to create again after 1.7.3 and it was definitely not exactly the same in several respects where I had not made any manual changes yet to the terrain. It might have just had something to do with that particular seed; but I'd be prepared for some differences if you choose to go that route.
Why not, however, just generate a few of your key 1.7.3 worlds now? and explore them by walking through every chunk (if you want the terrain to be unchanged). That way, when the update hits, the terrain in those explored worlds won't. Climatic changes are, apparently, unavoidable; regardless of whether or not you explore the terrain.

Retired StaffAlso, 1.0 seeds will not work after the 1.1 update.
And 1.1 seeds won't be the same when you enter them after the 1.2 update.
Oh, and don't forget that 1.2 seeds will differ when used with 1.3's terrain generation.
(Unless 4J adds a bunch of new biomes at once, which I'm sure they will.
The cave under gravel where you're supposed to spawn that provides the basis for the challenge. The rest of the seed really doesn't matter that much.
I made a thread about it a while ago. I guess it might be time to bring it back from the dead.
