I need help building a double extend/retract walkway that is more than two wide. Here are some examples of what I am talking about.
Now what I need help with is how do I extend this so that it is 5, 10 or 20 blocks long? What I am trying to do is make a retractable walkway into my castle that is 4x? But I cant seem to find a way to make the pistons work in the middle. The outside edge works fine but I cat get both to work in the middle. So I hope one of you super genius redstone guys could help me out.
well to make it 20 blocks long.. oh my... i personally have not tried that so i cant help with that. and for the double extender i can never get mine to work in Xbox version. im good with redstone but your going to need someone elses input on that
Well and this is just a quick moc up to show how I have learned to make a dbl x pistion work, What I really want is to make a walkway that is pulled back to have a lava pit under it. Why have a moat around your castle when you can have it in the entrance.
Here's my Thought lol. All the pushes piston will need repeaters behind them wired together to move them. for the inside ones how about putting red stone torches under them so when they are pushed forward they get powered by the torches underneath? Just a thought. In my head I can kinda see it working some how but I'm also kinda tired lol. Good luck to you I hope my thought works or atleast helps. In my world I'm kinda the electrician lol. Nobody knows anything in my world about complicated wiring but me. But it makes me feel goof when they need me to wire up their ideas.
im assuming what your trying to do is make the walkway itself wider. all you need is to have the center pushed up from the bottom. so use vertical double extendr for the middle section.
also you could use an invertor circuit here there are torches set up under the center pistons. stacked 2 high so they invert and are off when the power is of and vice versa. this is a pretty boss way to deal with piston walkways. but youll only be able to make it a single extender.
also tto note. you may want to set a decent delay from one end to the other so that the pistons arent trying to move all at once. this can lag them out and make some not work. had a similar problem with a 3 wide bridge. works perfectly now.

the torch idea wont work cuase it wont retract since extended pistons cant be moved. also what hes trying to do is make a wider bridge not make the pistons push farther he already has a working double extender. what he needs is a way to fill the gap between the outside blocks.
Like you said I tried to use torches in an inverter under a piston in the center but I wasn't able have it retract. And like killenjoke points out I am trying to make this walkway longer by addind more pistons side by side.
What you would need are wired torces under the second set of pistons, not static torches (think the first half of a bunch of NOT gates).
What I don't understand is why you have the 4click repeaters on both sides. They don't appear to do anything, when the system is off, they power nothing. When it is on, they are pumping power into the extended piston of the first set???

The second repeater is set at 4 clicks so that when it is turned off it has a slight delay to have the second piston bring the block back with it. I also had to add a repeater inbetween the two sides because even though there is enough power to work it. The pistons on the far side of the lever sometimes don't retract right.
You may be better off having the blocks pulled down to make your moat. I built something similar in my castle. It is here in the beginning of this video.
If you are interested I can track down the tutorial I used to make it.
Wow that is a great looking castle and beach house. Your creative use of things to add color and texture ae awesome. As for the your idea on the moat, I think I could figure out how to do one like that. Since it would only need to be one piston pushing up. I may just have to do it that way since I can't find a way to do it the other way.

Hold on, don't give up yet. I'm playing with the idea as we speak.
I am thinking about the idea of a push up walkway that you control with one lever that has a delay wired to a trap door in ceiling that drops lava. My only concern is that the lava may take to long to disapear sometimes.
This is the farthest I could go trying to put a double extender on top of it:
That second piston is a real bizznatch. I would have to redesign the entire thing to figure out how to make it work. I don't feel like spending any more time on it, piston-based machines aren't my best subject. Hopefully this will give you a good base to start with though.
EDIT: When did they add profanity filters to this forum?
I made some changes to your design to try and get the pistons to move more smoothly, but i am having a real hard time getting the stones to come back with the second piston.
I can get it to push both out just fine but when they retract, I don't know if it is the torch or block or what ever it is under block that i want to come back that it is not letting it.

Yeah, I completely forgot about pulsing the second piston again to grab the block. I noticed that after posting, but had some errands to run. I'm going to start on a new design now, even if you use the one duotheslayer posted. I usually don't like building piston machines, but now I'm on a mission.

Any insight would be great.

Retired StaffIt might take some trickery to squeeze another 2 pistons in though. Was that what you were wanting?

Note* you will need 4 ticks on both pulsing repeaters in the center
