I haven't seen this posted yet but Minecraft 360 edition just recently passed 4 million sales! I just want to say congratulations 4J for getting that many sales on this awesome game and thanks for porting it over to Xbox so I could relive my beta days from the computer and for giving people who didn't have a great gaming computer a chance to play this amazing game. What are your thoughts on it reaching this many sales numbers?
I must say I'm impressed with how quickly the sales grew. I did expect it to do very well, even before release, but the numbers have completely caught me off guard. It's nuts to think that an indie game could blow up this big.

That's exactly how I feel.

That's pretty epic For a Xbox Marketplace game... Minecraft4lyffeee
I wonder how much of that is actually 4J's profit. I know they have overhead to worry about, plus I heard Microsoft gets a 30% cut from all game sales. Then, on top of that, of course they have employee wages. Either way, they're raking in some serious cash.

Mhm, right-o. And my calculations up there weren't including the 160 msp skin pack and whatever other DLC they put out.. I'm sure they're doing plenty fine budget wise. I don't think 4j has to many employees either, do they? From my understand, it's a fairly small team on the terms of game developers.

They're small compared to Infinity Ward, Bungie, EA, or anything like that. From what I understand, they're a lot bigger than Mojang though. That last part is just hearsay, I have no clue exactly how large the Mojang team is, I just know it's pretty small.
I suppose this puts the developer of fortress craft in his place . He said it would not sell well because it costs 20$ . He thought people would just buy his game for 3$ instead .

well do some math there. if Microsoft gets 30% of all sales profits and they got 4 million sales at 20$ thats 80 million. so Microsoft gets 24 million and 4J gets 56 million if im correct.

That's only one variable. Out of that 56 million they still have overhead expenses, which is their greatest expenditure. Then they have employee wages, and we can't forget taxes.
There's no way to tell for sure unless someone got ahold of their records. Until then, there are too many unknown parameters to accurately estimate how much 4J is actually profiting from the sales.
Just guessing here, I'm going to say they've made around 25 million so far. Still not bad for such a small business.

i wasn't going for an exact number. i didn't count in employee wages and stuff i just accounted actual game sales
