Built something in Creative Mode? It's legit because it's part of the game. Built something in Survival? It's legit because survival is part of the game.
Built something with duping? I'm not impressed because you abused a glitch to do it. A glitch isn't part of the game, no matter how many people try to defend it as such. That's just my view.
Legit in Minecraft for me is playing within the confines of that game and using what the game has provided you.
I could agree with all of this IF it was the game play that was being judged; but it's not. It's people who are merely putting up a photo of a big build or historically accurate build that get accosted with the question "Duped?." For generations, children have been taking the money out of the monopoly game and playing "store" with it. This imaginative use of a part of a game is legitimately creative. If the children playing "store" play it in accordance with the rules they've set up, then they are playing "store" in a legitimate way. The big Minecraft builds are legitimate in their design and creativity regardless of how the pixels were obtained... and I feel absolutely no guilt in appreciated those builds for their design features alone without assessing the quality of the builders' abilities to mine or kill creepers and such.
That the anti-dupers are now persisting to move their ridiculous attacks onto users of Creative Mode, which is without ANY doubt a fully and completely legimate part of the game, just reflects the amount of non-sensical prejudice they harbor against people who enjoy the game differently that they do and how much they need/want to pump up their own egos with a false sense of superiority.

I agree, duping just gives you resources it doesn't build for you. I enjoy seeing peoples creativity and duping doesn't even cross my mind when I see somebody's awesome builds. I think most of the duping complainers are the ones that don't have any creativity and are jealous of people who have it and got to put them down to make them feel good about themselves. I personally don't dupe because I am more of a "hunter and gatherer" than a builder but in noway shape or form do I bash people for duping. If you want to build something epic by all means get your resourses how you want and get to building. It is your game, enjoy it how you like and show it off! I am jealous I can't build like that but I don't hate you for it.
I'm going to say "legit" for me in MC is anything you build. Since the game is all about building. Unless there a copy and paste feature for building and walls and such, that would not be legit.
As far as duping, I don't know how..... I have not tried to find out how... But there are times that I sit and go, "Man, I'm at the water level and have to walk for two minutes to get more sand, maybe I should dupe sand or I'm out of coal and I need 30 - 40 pieces of glass." Duping would make this build easier. But then i go of "hunting", find a hole in the ground and find a boat load of coal or a new beach for sand. I'm not gonna lie, I get all excited about it.
In my world (MCXB) I have friends come in and they dupe, I haven't. But because I do a lot of mining I appreciate the duped diamonds left in my world by my buddies that dupe (I also have a bad habit of finding diamonds and then fall in to lava or mine a diamond and then have lava come chasing after me... You would think I would carry a bucket of water.)
I will say this, my friends that have come into my world and looked at the stuff I built say "Wow you built that bridge and you didn't dupe! That's cool!" So I TAKE PRIDE IN THAT.
I have friends hat some crazy stuff built and they duped every thing. But they still had to build it! That's pretty legit in my book.
