I recently started playing the PC version of Minecraft. It seems like in the Xbox 360 Edition, less mobs spawn.
For example, I have accumulated about five skeletons max in my skeleton spawner trap in the Xbox 360 Edition. Using the exact design as I did in the Xbox 360 Edition, my skeleton spawner trap in the PC version has had over ten trapped at once.
Also, it just seems like mobs spawn more often in the PC version above ground around my home.
Are the spawn rates different between the versions?
It could just be that the spawner on the XBox is nearer to some unlit caves and such; and the monsters are spawning there rather than in your trap. Also, I believe the distance ratios (how far away from you the mobs must be to spawn and stay spawned) are a little different between the two platforms. The mob cap formula might also be a little different to accommodate the smaller world size and more limited number of players in the world at the same time.
The rates in my mob drop trap that I made last week have been steadily increasing as I've explored more area around it, discovered dark places outside the trap where the monsters were spawning and placed torches there.
Yeah, It's also a bit harder to find animals if you're on an online server. If
people keep killing them, they die out. And it takes a while for them to respawn.
