As some of you have probably saw me mention before in previous separate threads (I didn't think it got the recognition it deserved to actually be noticed), is the implementation of Ambiance / backround noise into Minecraft.
First, let's take a look at what we already have along the lines of sounds
5 types of Enemy sounds (Creepers, zombies, skeletons, pigmen, ghasts)
3 repeating music tracks (ugh)
Popping of placing and removing blocks
Water (Basic relayed track of running water)
Running
If I'm forgetting anything please let me know and I'll include it, but bottom line, The game is very barren when it comes to sound. And if you don't have the music playing, then you literally have nothing at all to listen to and you'd be sitting in a quiet room besides the picking up and placing of blocks (pop pop. pop pop).
The music is quite enjoyable at first actually, but you can only enjoy something so long before you start to resent it.
Now what I'm suggesting along the lines of adding this ambiance noise is
Wind blowing
The sound of trees reacting to wind.
better water sound (Ocean and lake)
Cricket sounds when dusk is approaching
Sounds of birds throughout the day
(Please suggest more)
But again, on of the biggies I'd want in this update would be Wind and trees reacting to the wind.
Please consider this in the near future 4J. I forsee it not taking a whole lot of time and effort to add, but a pretty solid difference in how the game is to be enjoyed, and personally, I would be thrilled if 4J added this into Minecraft.
Food for thought:Listen to the video, kinda cheesy in a way, but imagine, or just play minecraft while this is playing. New feel at all?
And have this sound cue for more Cold and snowy regions
I could easily see the birds getting annoying, As Boxanata stated, They should only be heard around Dawn. Dusk should be with crickets.
Voice your Opinions on this please! any ideas to go along with what has been mentioned is always welcome.
Cave sounds have just been added to the recent 12w38bsnapshot. That would be cool to hear.
Love the cricket sounds idea.
Hearing the sounds of birds would better if it was only at dusk, & not during the whole day. For me, that would get annoying.
These are great ideas, however they are adding more music in 1.8.2. If you thought
they were only talking about music discs, then you were mistaken. I believe 'cat' plays
once in a while in the background.
And if you own the PC edition, you have to download the spahx BD purecraft texture pack.
First off, it looks fantastic. Second, it adds bird sounds and extra background ambiance.

Dawn and dusk, to give it more of a feeling of night and morning.

That is definitely your opinion because I have never grown tired of Minecraft's background music.
As far as them adding more background noises like crickets, birds, wind, etc... I would love that. However, I think they have to go through C418, the guy who does the sounds and music for Minecraft. They might not, but I'm pretty sure they would.
Lets see here, through the eyes of c418.
1.)Go outside with a recorder on a windy day
2.)press record
3.)send it to 4j
4.)Get paid.
That's a very smart ass and simplified way of me putting it but seriously, why would anyone not want to do this?
Nobody knows what the deal made between Mojang and Microsoft contains. 4J/Microsoft may have the ability to add sounds themselves, but they may not. They might have to get C418 to do the sounds like he does for the PC version.
Definitely an awesome idea. Although, personally, I have earbuds shoved in my brain holes while I play most games.
Same. Especially with FPS games.
Last year my Art teacher got all funky neuro sciency physiology on our asses and dived pretty deep with the whole "Left brain, and right brain" deal and how the Right brain is more the artistic side and while your doing anything creative like drawing and such music sort of feeds that side of the brain and actually helps you be a bit more creative and more focused. So listening to music while playing Minecraft is always a good idea in a way, Except for the music already that's already playing in the game (for me)

FPS games are my main exception. I like to be able to hear the shots and know how far they are away from me. I also don't listen to music when playing most RPG's. I feel it takes away from the whole experience, plus I like to actually listen to the character dialogue, not just read it. It does seem to help me focus when playing certain games though, particularly racing games or twin-stick shooters.
Me myself I liked the ambiance of PC MC. The music doesn't play on a constant loop like that of the xbox version so that there are moments in the game where everything is deathly silent. I like that because it does make the game more creepy. Imo if anything they need to cut down on some of the sounds altogether. Now the wind, I think that it might be pretty cool to hear it once in awhile and also if they added in some of the creepy music from PC when you're cave exploring. Why that's not in the xbox version I don't know but like I said there's already alot of noise pollution in MC360. They should cut down on some of it(mostly the constant music loop) before adding new sounds

I was sort of saying in general as an alternative to having music on. If this was added I probably would just keep the music off.
Theirs not enough noise pollution I say, as I suggested, It's barren of any interesting sounds if you don't have the music on.
It would be cool to have beach sounds in areas that were heavily made of sand and near an ocean. I know they are releasing more music dics for 360, but I do hope they do add one or two more main tracks though. They are very relaxing, but we could really use a little variety. Wind blowing would be cool as well as mentioned already.
Wind might get extremely annoying after a while, but other than that these are great.
Well what's the difference from hearing wind blow in real life and how it would be in minecraft? That's my approach on this, just compare to how your sense of hearing would be like irl while outside, I mean, as long as they wouldn't muck up the sounds and how the sounds are triggered and all that, I couldn't imagine it getting annoying.
