Hello all. I just bought the game yesterday, so forgive my ignorance if these appear to be noobish questions... I've had trouble locating gold, diamond, and wheat. In which areas do I need to look to track down these items? My iron equipment is holding up alright but I'd prefer something with a bit more longevity. Thanks.
gold and diamonds are towards the bottom of the map. dig a stair case down or find a cave to explore. should find some that way.
wheat doesn't actually grow naturally (i think so, at least). when you cut/mine/punch/whatever tall grass, you can plant the seeds they drop and they'll grow wheat.
Diamond is found under layer 16. Gold is actually pretty common, don't use it for tools and weapons though. It's pretty much useless as a tool and will only mine/dig/whatever about 30 blocks before breaking. As weapons and armor, iron is a little stronger and will last a lot longer.
