If you mean the same world that you have right now, no. If you make a new world with your same seed, I think yes. Even if you explored everywhere, you won't know where it would spawn.
Long story short, you still have to make a new world. New or old seed.
Something I've been wondering is if the maps will get bigger. I really would like it if the worlds were big like pc in the nxt patch. But I guess if it's an old world and you have explored everything then no I think your S.O.L
If you' have explored (i.e. walked through every chunk [16 x 16 x 128] area on your map), you are SOL. The terrain in the explored chunks from bedrock to sky limit has already been generated and saved in your world save file. It is, therefore, only the "old" terrain.
IF you have completely unexplored chunks (areas that you've never walked through anywhere between bedrock and sky limit at any time since starting the world); then the new features COULD, MIGHT, MAYBE POSSIBLY generate there. The terrain in those unexplored chunks will generate when you first explore them; and if that's after the update, the system will (most likely) access the newer terrain generation formula in order to fill in those spots. However, there is no guarantee that a swamp or a mineshaft or a stronghold would go in that exact spot under the new formula. The new formula could just as easily calculate that old oak forest goes in that particular chunk. So, even with unexplored areas in your map, whether or not you will get specifically new terrain in those areas is a longshot at best. The other issue is that chunks' X and Z boundaries are square; and the system (mostly likely) will not be able to blend old terrain with new terrain if that terrain feature lops over a chunk boundary. So, you may get 1/2 a ravine or 1/2 a village, etc.
Question - Is there anything you can do about it now anyway? Answer - No. So, why get your knickers in a twist over it now? Best to just wait and see what happens in your world after the update comes in and THEN decide whether you can live with it and keep going in your old world OR decide to generate a whole new world and start over.

4J have already stated clearly that world size is not getting any bigger in this next update. It may happen sometime down the road, but not this time around.

What do you mean by the update came? The update hasn't come out yet.
If you use the same seed post update as you have now, you will get a different world, not likely the same world with just new features. The terrain generation formula is changing. Different formula = different result.
sorry to inform everyone but the old saves will NOT work with the update, you can play them but without the new stuff, you can use them with creative mode but thats it, if you want the villages and strongholds, you have to make a whole new world, its the same for the pc version that why i havent played in awhile because im waiting for updates to come out so i dont waste my timeoh and the old seeds will NOT work, just like the pc version the seeds all change with major updates, its because the code will now know to generate ravines and structures so it adds new code, so if you use the same seed it will be completely different, but with that there wil be a whole new wave of amazing seeds!! like ones with a giat ravines straight threw the middle of the map, so we the lose all our old work but we can just rebuild it and make it better, thats what "minceraft" is all about
People when will you learn.... the seed number isnt just your map. Its anyones who has used that seed number. So all the unexplored areas on your map, if someone else has explored it on the same seed number on their map, its been explored!!! Your saved game is your map, the unexplored areas or explored areas wont update in the next update on your map unless you start it again. Brand spanking new. Same seed just new generator applied.

On PC I never had to make a whole new world with every update. I just walked a few chunks in a new direction, towards an unexplored area of my map, and that's it: New features.

Nope, I'm pretty sure you're not correct. Let's say you and I are using the same seed; but not actually playing in the same game. My XBox will never know what you've explored and haven't on your version of the seed nor will your XBox ever know what I've explored or not on my version of the seed. The seeds are the same only because the versions we are currently generating the terrain under are still the same (1.7.3). Once 1.8.2 comes out, both systems will use the new formula to generate unexplored terrain (unless 4J overrides this by forcing the 1.7.3 worlds to still access the old terrain formula). Your world and my world should wind up being different/unique from each other since we're unlikely to have left the same areas unexplored. The terrain in the as yet unexplored areas should be the same as if the seed was used to create a new world in 1.8.2. The terrain in the already explored areas should be the same as if the seed was used to create a new world in 1.7.3.
There is strong evidence to show that terrain generation does occur as exploration occurs. Newly generate world files start out being anywhere from 4 to 7 MB. Fully explored but completely unmined (i.e. no blocks moved around at all, but all areas of the map walked through) increase to between 16 to 17 MB. Half explored worlds, fall in between those two figures (around 9 to 10 MB).
I am set up to test this. I have generated 3 worlds each of 2 separate seeds - one unexplored, one fully explored, and one 1/4 to 1/2 explored (est.). When 1.8.2 comes out, I will also generate the two seeds again in 1.8.2. Then I plan to compare each set of four worlds to each other. I expect it will show: the fully explored 1.7.3 world will have no changed terrain, the unexplored 1.7.3 world will look like the 1.8.2 world except for the chunks right adjacent to the initial spawn area, the 1/2 explored 1.7.3. world will look the the 1.7.3 world in the explored areas and will look like the 1.8.2 world in the unexplored ones. I do plan to report my results.
Of course, this is all dependent on 4J not programming something that restricts worlds generated prior to 1.8.2. from accessing the 1.8.2 terrain generation program. I did find an unsourced mention in an article online that stated: "Only worlds created after the 1.8.2 update is released will support Creative Mode or any of the other new features and items. All worlds prior to the update will run the older version of the game." (http://www.examiner....tem-screenshots).
If this reporter is correct, any discussion of using a 1.7.3 world in creative mode or with any 1.8.2 feature becomes moot. However, the report does not give his source for the information; so the accuracy of his statement remains unverified.
The XBox 360 is outdated and can't handle the large worlds like the PC. Too much strain on the system. Maybe when the XBox 720 comes 4J will put it on the 720 and update the world size. When I said "maybe" I really meant "hopefully".
Too much strain on the system? The entire world isn't going to be loaded. Only the chunks you are on.
Ok, I've never seen a Swamp Biome in the Xbox edition. but, I know one thing: and that's: NPC Villages, Strongholds, and Abandonned Mineshafts will not generate in previously created worlds, although they may if you have any unexplored areas.

This worries me. There's never been indication of this being an issue. Can someone from the PC world verify that pre-1.8 worlds will not load in the creative editor in their version?

This would be kind of irrelevant, since pc and xbox are separate teams/companies working in the direction they intend. But yes since the old worlds will be converted into the new anvil, they will work with creative.
That has nothing to do with the xbox version as like up has mentioned it remains possible that the team might have done this difference as well. No telling until we actually see the product. So that means a patient wait for the update.:D
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.
Can Abandon Mineshafts, NPC villages, and Strongholds spawn in a seed that was made prior to the update relese
Could a swamp biome somehow generate
The only reason this matters is i try to only have one world with all my "cool" stuff and i still want all the features tht come out.
what he said
Anyways, the seed will generate structures but idk about the biomes
