Like I said in the title, how do you determine the spawn point for people going into your world for the first time? I'd like to make a world that I can invite people too, but I'd like to make a spawn trap made of obsidian and lava so that they have to read the rules first (RPG server)

Sorry but on the XBox version, you won't be able to pour lava or water within a 30-block area around that original spawn point anyway. It's a protected zone. As far as I know, the easiest way is if you make a habit of looking at your map right off the bat and recording the coordinates where you spawned when you first create a new world. Failing that, you could have someone else new join your world and record the coordinates where they spawn the first time.
The best way is to use a 2nd controller and keep killing player 2, Each time you kill him place a block where he spawned...If you keep killing him and marking where he spawned you should end up with a 20 by 20 spawnpoint...

That's so smart it becomes stupid. I always traveled 20 meters in every direction from the spot I spawned, marking off a 40 x 40 area, knowing the spawn zone was somewhere inside of it.
Well... idk... TDWP isn't bad, honestly, just not my thing. Saw them live with Whitechapel once. I always found it amusing how these days christian metal bands tour with bands that openly speak about religious corruption and things of that nature.

YOU WILL NEVER **** AGAIN! Yes, and yes. I also saw them at Summer Slaughter with The Black Dahlia Murder. I wanted to see them at Mayhem Fest too, but all the venues were too far away.
first off to clear some things up, you spawn in a 20x20 area in multiplayer. the best way to determine this is to find the general area of the spawner. you can do this by destroying your bed and dying. then mark that area. easiest way is to dig a quick hole with your fists in the shape of an x. now you take a bucket of lava and a few stacks of some block that isnt natural. iron. gold. mosstone. then try to place the lava. (it wont allow you to place the lava in a 30x30 area around the center of the spawner.) then in every block it wont allow you to place lava put a marking stone. next count out the blocks and find the center, then just build up the 20x20 area around that center and you are golden.
remember you will spawn on the highest available block in the spawning area so make sure theres no roof and that any walls are outside the spawning area. i usually build it 24x24. just for a little extra wiggle room.
if you plan to build a trap you will just need to place an obsidian floor 30x30 floating with lava flowing just outside the sawn area. also you can lght netherack in the spawn area.... which seems weird to me. but you may find that useful.

This is useful info. I wonder if you could build an ocean over the spawn point and then have it spawn you in a cave underneath it or does it just spawn you in the water? I've been spawned in water before but I only seem to remember it happening if my head was able to stick out above the water.

it will probably spawn you in the top layer of water. or possibly on the bottom layer of the ocean. it wont even register the cave to my knowledge. it will always try to spawn you on the highest block. that being said. im not sure if it considers water a block thats the only question youd have to answer. if it does, then youll spawn at the top of the ocean. if not then you will spawn at the bottom. most likely youll spawn at the highest water block. they did this to avoid people being spawned in natural caves. theres a monster spawner just below my spawn area and plenty of water around it. so its conceivable that where it to spawn people within maps, instead of above them you could be spawned in a monster spawner. this would not be good for people just starting who dont like peaceful.

Makes sense. I just thought it would be cool to make a survival map of sorts where you start in a cave.

in a way you could. you could dig down. and leave the roof open so it would look like something from sanctum. make some sick natural vertical cave. with unscaleable walls. jsut make sure the 20x20 area is clear.

now that im thinking about it that would be a sick spawning area. if you do it let me know id like to see it.
It's definitely something I'll consider doing (likely when creative comes in). I already made a huge hole in my current world that goes to bedrock and I've made bridges going around the edges to all of the different caves.
The reason I am thinking of a strange spawning area is that I want to make a map with ton of different things to explore and discover for my brother to play on his own or maybe I could join him although I would likely remember all of the secrets.
Always been into creating things, so I'm interested in making something sorta like an adventure map, but not really. What I really want to do is just give more reason to explore by adding even more features besides just the strongholds, villages and mineshafts that will be added.

yea. sounds like it would make a cool adventure map though.

This one speaks the truth.

True. Didn't think of that.
