Anyways, I have a question about 1.8.2 as well. Glass panes and Iron bars
are going to connect to other blocks. Fences can do this in a later update.
But fences look SO much better when they connect to other blocks, so my
question is, why can't they just implement the system they use with glass panes
and iron bars into fences right now?

hmm, not sure. I love how panes work, so im hoping they do the same to fences in the update.. oh yeah XD we get gates... finally haha
Breaking Iron Bars by hand takes quite a long time(less than obsidian) but results in the loss of the bars like most ore craftables. I'd recommend a pickaxe
Not all of the features in that screenshot will be available in the next update, but most will. The ones I can think of that won't be available are mycelium (how I instantly grew that large mushroom in a high light level; plant mycelium, put mushroom, use bonemeal) and I don't think we'll yet have the different coloured wood planks, which are coloured according to which wood log they came from.
yeah the color planks are in i think 12w24a i believe which is basically 1.2.3 -1.3 I would love to have those along with the upsidedown stuff. I am patient enough. There are plenty new blocks to keep me occupied in the meantime.
