I'm curious to how 4J is going to fit all the various biomes on the small map that we have on 360, not to mention strongholds/NPC villages/abandoned mine shafts and what not. If I were to load up a fresh seed on the day 1.8.2 releases am I going to have all these things on my map all cluttered on there or will some seeds just not have certain biomes and strongholds/NPC villages/abandoned mine shafts?
Ravines, Mine Shafts, and Strongholds generate frequently enough that you should never have a map without one.
Biomes and NPC Villages however are another matter. Some biomes, like he new Mountain Biome, are somewhat rare. Same goes for NPC Villages. They are very rare as well. So chances are that some maps won't have those.
i doubt that they will all be on the same map but maybe
That is kind of what I figured, I could do without certain biomes but I'd definitely like to have all the other things I mentioned on my seed that my friends I will eventually play on.

This should put it into a good perspective for you. All of the blackness is ravines, caves, and abandoned mine shafts.
dang then there is no need to worry but then again theres no guarantee that it will be the same on the xbox360
Everything else has been almost exactly the same terrain wise. That is why seeds from the PC work on the Xbox 360. So I don't see any reason it would be changed.
When the new terrain features are added to the 360 edition, will they be incorporated into existing maps, or will you have to generate a new world to see them?
After all the time I put into building a minecart track around the perimeter of my first 'world', it'd be a shame to have to start over in order to explore the new underground features (though I wonder how that would work what with all the areas I riddled with tunnels to gather all that iron).
If you havent explored ur world u dont have to as in when u open the map all u can see is that tiny little circle. You dont have to start a new world but if u have explored ur world as in when u open ur map u can see the whole world your going to have to start a new one.
also gargamel and all that u should make a world with that seed then make sure u dont explore it. if you do that ud have a mountain world. I heard that there wont be as much mountain as there use to be after 1.8 sorry for the bad english Mustache guy will prolly add more to thisIf you havent explored ur world u dont have to as in when u open the map all u can see is that tiny little circle. Well, if you had unexplored areas of your map, meaning you hadn't been there yet, there would be a chance that new 1.8 terrain things would spawn there.
However, since you say you put a Mine Cart track all around the world, you've probably explored your entire map. So you will have to start a new world.

Starting a new world after you've put so much time into an existing one is a bitter pill to swallow but think of it as a fresh start.

Yes, there is one unexplored corner on my current world since the track actually diverts inward from the world edge here and there for variety, since something like 90% of the landforms are tundra with medium-to-large lakes--Very few spots actually get rain, and I've witnessed 'thundersnow' more than once :D.
I know I've had to re-craft maps from time to time after getting killed while holding them and not making it back to the death-spot before the dropped items de-spawned (I had read it was 5 min, but timed it once and saw them vanish after three), but I could have sworn I had to re-explore the world after replacing a de-spawned map item.
MG, what scale is that map (x X z)? I presume there's also Stronghold thrown in there as well?
I'm not really sure actually. It's just a picture I pulled from somewhere. I can say from playing the PC enough though, that if it's the same, there will be no shortage of those things.
The reason I ask is I've often heard the post-1.8 underground described as "swiss cheese" and if the scale of that map in terms of x and z is anywhere close to our own 890X890 (rounding), I can understand why! My God! it's a good thing dirt and stone don't obey gravity physics or the first time you broke dirt the entire world would be likely to collapse!
As a matter of fact, I've just saved and reviewed the picture very closely, and I'm willing to bet that it is almost perfectly scaled to our world. The picture itself is 800X600 pixels at 96dpi. Each little square room in what I presume to be the mineshafts is 3 pixels wide with the door between each being 1 pixel wide. I seem to remember mineshafts being 3 wide with wooden "support beams" every so often that would look like doors between rooms from above.

If our worlds are about the same size as that picture, just be prepared to get lost a lot.
When Mine Shafts were first added to the game on PC, I got lost for several Minecraft days in one complex Mine Shaft.

Let's not forget that you can start a new map as survival, play a bit, and load the same map later in creative. You can then do a lot of stuff really quickly, like build a huge city, then reload an play in survival. Unless you would like to take a month to mine all the necessary materials to build the city you might have already built in another map.

Doubling the map size
1.2.3 ?
