As the title suggests, what do you think about protected areas? For those who do not know, this is a PC mod that allows the host to force which blocks each player can manipulate. It would not be very difficult to recode relative to the other ones.
Personally, I love it all. No more griefing or stealing or breaking property limits in my "server". What do you think?
Why are there so many "no" votes? I don't see how or why anyone could not want this. :S
I think they should make a series of plug-in style DLC's for 80 points each. Things like this, economy, server commands, ChunkVisualizer, etc. Just a bunch of little things that are cheap and useful, but don't drastically alter the game.

What a cool idea. Each one is cheap enough, and you don't have to get (pay for) the ones you don't want.
I've never been one for protecting areas. I protested it a lot back when Notch had suggested adding it into the vanilla game. I dislike restrictions in an open world game. To me, the potential of having your wooden house burnt down or your stuff looted adds to the survival aspect. It's also a great teacher. You quickly learn to build out of cobble or better, and find inventive new ways to hide chests.
I really think this is most important if we get to the point where people can download adventure maps that other players created. To clarify, I'm not sure I need it for normal use, but if I was file sharing my world, it would be nice to be able to lock it down.

It adds to the survival aspect, but there are tons of people who like the creative aspect more. It's one thing if a Creeper blows up your house, that's your own fault for lack of vigilance. But it's not like mobs go out of their way to wreck your house. But it sucks when another player wrecks your stuff while you're away. There's nothing you can do about it, and you can't really play the game if you're always unsure about saving or leaving an area just because someone else is in the game, and you shouldn't have to shy away from wood just because someone might come burn it.
I'd personally love to do this, I'd restrict everyone from using TNT, flint and steel, and lava buckets, or I'd safe-zone off my house. Building/breaking permissions by property line would be stellar.

If you don't want it to ruin the Survival aspect, don't use it.
that fact that in the post's title it says "as DLC."
change that and i might change my vote
It says that because 4J Studios mentioned the inspired mods as DLC. It does not mean you have to pay, but it must be manually downloaded.
Yes, it's optional for my world, but I'd need a way to filter out servers using said DLC. That way I could stick to survival and no one would have to be unhappy. Perhaps little checkboxes to indicate which DLC is activated at the time.

I agree with the last part, but you wouldn't need to filter out servers. If they had protected areas on, you could just request to have your land unprotected.

Lol, sorry went a little off topic there but honestly I really like the idea.

Griefers.

I'd second that as an official "Wishlist" idea.
I know. May someone inform me of any possible negatives?
