I know Microsoft is keeping a tight lid on all of the New Next generation Xbox console details but Most believe it will start selling by the end of 2013 sowhat’s the possibility of a new Minecraft version coming or the one we have now working on the next xbox?
backwards compatibility is more likely, imo. it'd be nice to see this version adapted to the new console though to utilize the extra power.
Ha! we're talking Microsoft, not Sony. They'll shut down 360 game development and move everyone to the new console or play what you have, like they did when 360 came out.....Hell with xbox, upgrade or suffer.
Maybe the next gen will allow bigger world size......just sayin', cause you know those posts are coming!

There's a decent probability that Xbox720 will run xbox 360 titles (or most titles). The xbox 360 is based on PC technology and appears to run a version of WinCE. The 720 is simply an upgrade of the technology. This makes it fairly simple for MS to move the OS over to the 720 with few changes.
This design philosophy is differs from Sony, in that Sony creates a completely new architecture with each generation. this means there's new OS, new APIs and nothing "works" or can be leveraged from the prior generation. This means that all the work that Sony did to improve their OS, add Trophies, better friend mangement etc, is completely dead code. They have to rewrite it for the PS4. Which means, a total setback as the PS4 needs to have every OS feature the PS3 had, but better.
Microsoft gets this for free, just like you can take your Windows7 license from a PC you bought 3 years ago, and install it on a top of the line PC you bought today. All the OS features still work. For MS, moving from 360 to 720 is similar (not identical) to that. They'll have to update their DirectX library to support new hardware, but all the game developers code to use DirectX, so it standardizes and abstracts the hardware differences to something that makes games more portable. This is why you can use XNA to write a game that runs on Windows PC and on xbox. There's a difference in binaries, but the game code uses standard APIs (like DirectX), so even though what finally has to happen to draw your guy on screen is different, the game itself doesn't need to worry about that.
Arcade titles will probably have to get certified (tested) to make sure they run on 720, but those that pass, you'll probably be able to re-download onto your new 720 and play them. MS will be very keen to have that, because it opens a huge catalog of games for the new machine when it launches. Disk based games will probably work similarly (like the 360 allowed/blocked orginal xbox titles based on if they worked or not)
Considering i can still run some DOS and Windows 3.1 software on my Win7 machine, we should all remember that MS has a fair amount of experience in backwards compatibility.
We'll be dead by december so idk wtf ur talking bout minecraft for after 2012 2012 is the end ._.
They also said that in 2010 the world would end.
I'm pretty sure I'm not dead.

Yeah, they might import it. I'm pretty sure that the Microsoft/Mojang thing where they said that only the PC, handhelds and Xbox would use minecraft, I'm sure that the Xbox Next Generation counts as a Xbox.

i'm sure that all the programming was already thought about, by both mojang, 4-j and m-s. the only thing that we should all worry about it wither or not we are going to have to start "fresh".
what i mean by that is, are they going to slowly update the game after the new console comes out, like they have been? like seriously, why the 3 mb updates? why not one bigger update a week? or something along those lines....?

the 360 has backwards compatibility

Retired StaffYou're pretty dense if you actually believe that. People say the world is going to end once every couple of years.
Obvious Sarcasm...
At least I hope.

Retired StaffI've seen him around before, he doesn't seem like the sarcastically trolling type.
Exactly. They said the same thing about 6-6-06 too.
