Ok, so on my current map I have almost exactly half the world map explored. Now barring any massive changes to the map itself, is leaving that other half untouched a reasonable amount to get maybe a village or stronghold or something? I've almost even split it on the left side of my map...which is currently almost a full tundra biome. So I have no cactus so far, that's about the only thing I am risking losing if the update shifts biomes to maybe get something new...right?
Want to make sure I'm not reading posts wrong that if I have areas unexplored after the update they can contain new features. Otherwise I'll just finish exploring the map to see how much of a snow map I truly have. Just one of those questions that'll make my choices from now until the update easier, since if waiting to explore a map won't help them contain the features I might as well just explore and test more now and start new post update...any confirmation either way is appreciated. Thanks!
I'd read through all the previous update posts but at this point they're almost all the same, and locked instantly. So I just hope to get a good solid answer before this one is too..
Simple question: Is leaving half the map unexplored to get update features a good amount?

That's my theory...I have some traps and farms to work out so I know how to do them myself..and a few large caves nearby to explore anyway...figure there's not much reason to explore it now except for cacti...but eh. Least this way I have maybe some odd chance of getting a village or melons or something...
my way right now is to map everything out and hoow i'm gonna rebuild it in the update then just remake my seed .. not actually fully build anything but find where my house is going, where the farms are going where i am gonna build a mob gravity spawner and suchh
If you are planning on using a seed from the current generation, then using it again after the 1.8 update, it won't work. The seed will generate an entirely different map because of the new terrain code in 1.8.
i am not sure some people say that leaving it unexplored would generate new terrain like clay and what not maybe even strongholds...
but on the other side there are others who say when you make a map it all generates, i had this with my old maps they did not have clay even in unexplored area even with co-ordinates others had given me for clay.. in unexplored areas
best to just wait and check.
There are some pretty solid indications on the 360 that maps don't all generate when you make them. Newly created worlds that are completely unexplored are 4 to 7 MB in size. Those same Worlds that have been walked around; but not mined nor built on, jump in file size to be 16 to 17 MB. My main world, which has been completely walked over and has been extensively mined in spots and has several buildings on it is still hovering at around 17 MB. So, the big jump in file size happens when any one player goes into an area and explores it... which is most likely due to the terrain being generated at the time it is first explored, not when the world file is first created.

Caution when exploring your caves. If they run underneath an area that you haven't yet explored, the terrain in that area will generate above you as you explore the cave, even though you don't see it generate.
Unexplored areas should generate new terrain. Of course, this is all speculation until 4J confirms it, but based on them confirming the clay fix worked on worlds that were generated before it was released, this update should apply also. This does mean that worlds are not fully generated when you start. Just keep in mind that there will be a noticeable barrier between old world generation and new world generation.
