If there is no breeding why make a pen for animals in the video?
the idea/comcept of any penned animal in MC is regarded as a farm.. why even bother trapping them like that if they will just despawn when you log out ...
your data op is out of out of date i thinks
But they dont despawn in the adventure update (1.8) when you log, regardless of having breeding or not.
I can't remember....do sheep regrow wool with the 1.8 update? I'd like to think so. It would redeem the loss of breeding. Since sheep don't gots to die to makes da wool...yo.

I'm suprised nobody has mentioned this yet but tha part of the video had nothing to do with animals or breeding, they were showing off the fence gate, which is one of the features being brought forward. Nothing more nothing less. Breeding really isn't that important at all, I don't understand all the fuss.

Fence Gates are not being brought forward. Fence Gates came out in 1.8.
Also, without Breeding, your world would become completely devoid of animals if you killed them all. Meaning, no more chickens, cows, pigs, or sheep. That a lot of food and other resources down the drain that you'd never or hardly be able to get.
To be fair, the animals may just be in the pen so that the guy in the video did not have to go looking for all the different types of animals. He could just get to the test area, kill them off and be gone. Much more professional than, 'Oh, Find a pig. Oh, it's dead. Now we need to find a cow.."
you say breeding isn;t that important , but without it the only food we have are melons ((heal 1 hunger notch)), apples ((when they drop never too common)) and bread which is nice but doesn;t give hunger notchs back like meat.
and we have ok maps but the problem being we would run out of all animals (( if they add the non respawning in an area if you kill them thing)) plus no spawn eggs in creative yet so ..
i would say it's like saying farms in general are no use, so animals farming i would love as you would go through shed loads of bread all the time .. and playing multiplayer your wheat farm would have to be a good size
Mushroom soup. Fills half of the health bar, doesn't require coal and is plentiful considering mushrooms spread like the plague. Problem solved.
I'm with everyone else after the caged animals the are hinting very strongly at breeding.
To me, the pictures are merely indicating that the animals won't despawn and, therefore, may be captured. It does not necessarily suggest that they may be bred. If you capture a bunch of sheep and just use shears to gather wool, you should be able to farm wool without breeding the sheep. You can also capture chickens and collect eggs without killing any of the chickens or breeding them. Meat, however, cannot be collected without killing the animal. Apparently on th PC, a bug stopped animals that were killed from being replaced by new spawns; so those animals would eventually just disappear from the map. Knowing tthis, 4J MAY have corrected that bug, thereby making it possible that killed animals will be replaced with new spawns as well; but we'll have to wait to see if that is the case.
With the never spawn again thing, if you have already discovered your world and this feature comes into play. I am assuming what ever is there when you saved with stay there but to find new animals means there will be none?
A little confused as to how all this would work on the xbox version, as the pc one all you would have to do is walk a bit a ways to get those critters and slowly herd them back to your base/farm/whatever. So with this put a bane on old worlds then...O_o

My First World, always getting back to is a pleasure I enjoy with each new update that brings in more things to add in.

Animals do actually respawn. It has been confirmed by 4J. It is just rare. As for what will happen when you load up your world the first time after the update, my guess is they will just spawn right away like normal, and then just stick around. But that is an interesting question, I guess it could be possible that you start with no animals in your world since they aren't saved when you exit the game(if I remember correctly), which means you will have to wait a while before you have at least a couple of each mob spawn.
Ok that makes sense. Guess i'll have to wait and see, hoping for the best. Assuming that would be the case then i see no worries of making a farm like that even if it would take forever to do, or well seem like it. Well after that update. For as long as something respawns that makes a good note.
Thank you for clearing that one up to some degree, and hope for the best.

Hi.... this guy ehrm said there will be breeding and its says he's a parent or something here. look at the comments http://www.hookshoti...er-next-update/
So some random person commenting on an article about Minecraft should be proof that there is Breeding?
Unless 4J says, it's just more people trolling and 4J hasn't given a definitive yes or no yet.

According to the wiki, sheep regrow their wool after eating grass - a function that was added in 1.1.0. Ergo, if they did not add breeding you willdeplete your wool stock after shearing all the sheep you can find once. (unless they also brought the grass eating function forward as well - a feature that has never been mentioned.)
Oddly enough - it seems that sheep randomly regrow their wool now - I know I have followed flocks around and sheared what I thought was each sheep multiple times, but that might have just been despawn/respawn effects that I was not noticing.

I also think that sheep are randomly regrowing their wool now, if they don't despawn in the interim. I recently had a flock spawn near my base with one pink sheep it and went out and sheared them all. Only couple of minutes later, I looked out the window and again spotted a pink sheep and went out and sheared it too. I don't know the odds of pink sheep spawning, but I think the odds of two spawning back to back in the same chunk are almost astronomical... so, I think I sheared the same sheep twice.
Again from the wiki - pink sheep spawn incidence is .164% so the chances of spawning two in a row (ignoring confounding factors like spawning a chicken instead of a sheep) would be roughly 1 out of 371,000. Of course, this is being run is a system where it is documented as possible to go for 250 tries at a 1 out of 8 chance and not get a single result (egg throw trail) ... so who really knows

Ah yes, true, but my point remains the same. They were showing the fence gate (which will be a new feature for mc360) and not the animals behind it.

Well other than the "it will be in our 1.2.3"
