As the title says, is anyone else here concerned that with the upcomming update that there will simply not be enough space with the current map size for most of the new features?
There is a whole lot of stuff to be added in the 1.8.2 update and i just cant imagine it all fitting into the map size we have atm. I just hope all the new features/items/terrain are balanced nicely, rather than having an ugly cluster of everything.
Even with generated structures there is still plenty of land for my building needs. Exploring is a different story though.
Everything I've heard (from friends who play the PC version) about the things being added, ravines and abandoned mineshafts, is that they make the underground insanely confusing to navigate. So, exploring shouldn't be a problem.
i think most people here gonna play creative? plus we get superflatland.
I never play creative except to test certain things.
And personally, I'm more than fine with the current map size. It took me about 100 hours of gameplay to finally get around to exploring the boarders of the map, and even then, I still have many underground caves that need to be fully explored and there are plenty of things I still want to get around to building.
Yes! A thousand times yes! Small maps are going to cripple this game mark my words. 4J has at least been putting thought into it, but I don't know if and when we'll get a map increase. In the meantime, I guess we're gonna have to enjoy what we got, I'm not looking forward to all the seed generating I'm going to need to do in order to find a good combination of biomes.

Yeah, i have a feeling we are going to be greatly disappointed to find you we will probably need multiple worlds to enjoy all the features...unless they pull something clever outta their butts. Trust me, i hope im wrong as if they dont, i might not be able to play it until the update with bigger worlds comes out
There has been a lot of threads regarding world size, so I would say that, yes, there are a lot of people concerned about this issue. As for me, meh, I'm fine with the size we currently have, even with the generated structures.
Not worried about it at all First everyone is presuming feature size will be same as ont he PC and that there will be many features. All it will take to overcome these isses is scaling factors in the code. World size is not a real issue.
Yeah It's definitely going to have to expand a bit post 1.8 if 4J doesn't want to **** a lot of people off. The lack of certain biomes on my maps is starting to get to me, not to mention features like strongholes, ravines, and mineshafts... its just going to get worse with the newer biomes like jungles, swamps, mushroom biomes, etc.
either worlds are going to lack a lot of features and you'll need to world hunt, they'll be scaled down, or everything is going feel crowded.

The sad thing is is that I think you're absolutely right. Small maps will ruin the game especially w/the new update. Some worlds might not spawn w/abandoned mineshafts, ravines, or strongholds. Some might spawn 1or 2 of those things and some worlds might not spawn any of those at all. Even to just triple the map size would make me happy enough but who knows if it will ever happen
This is just a little idea that sprung to mind, not sure if it's plausible.
Why not have the ability to connect worlds with a new portal? let's say I make a new world I can create x amount of sub-worlds which I can access through portals, yet they're all saved under one world.
It's a little vague but I hope some understand where I'm coming from.
This has been discussed as a fix for small maps, but all it comes down to is being able to share items across worlds. The problem comes in when you try to apply multiplayer, everyone would probably have to be in the same map or "part of your world." It kinda takes away from the illusion of being in a larger map

isn't this idea already in the game with the nether/end though? it'd just be a matter of building the portals out of different blocks and having different activation methods.
EDIT: or maybe instead of making it so we have to build the portals, 4J can add 4 permanent portals at the northern, southern, eastern, western ends of the map that lead to 4 other randomly generated maps the size of half a normal world or the size of the nether.
although i think running 5-6 worlds at once would be a little too much xD
I'm not concerned in the slightest to be completely honest. I don't mind the map size at all. Infact, I think it's the perfect size to start out on. Ravines and Villages will not take up too much room on the surface, so that is no problem. Strongholds will be fine underground as well. I see no reason for people to nab at this like it's the last piece of turkey on thanksgiving. 4J said they are looking into bigger maps, And I have no doubt in my mind they will deliver. If the maps are only 20 blocks, or 200 blocks bigger. I will not complain.
Not a personal concern at all. In a single player survival world, I certainly already have more area and more resources than I'll ever need to survive well along into the game (provided I get better at fighting creepers and don't die quite as early onin the game as I do now... which causes me to start over in a new world).
In my single player building world (where I do allow myself to survive death), I still certainly have more than enough area to keep going for sometime.
When I play multiplayer, it is still only with a few friends, so again, most world's are quite adequate to keep the game going for quite awhile before we even make any sort of significant dent in the resources. Usually, we get tired of a world long before that and just want to start something new in a new setting anyway.
Also, I figure that the maximum numbers of villages, strongholds, ravines, and mineshafts that the system will try to put into a map will probably just be reduced to fit them into a smaller map overall. They might also be each a little smaller than they are on the PC.
Rather than get bent out of shape over it all now, I'm prepared to wait and just see whatever comes with the update.
This is going to be a huge issue. Especially with things like stronholds, abandoned mineshafts, addition biomes, etc. Looks like for my infinite world fix I will have to go back to PC OR PLAY THE MINECRAFT CLONES ON XBOX.
Alright if u have explored all your map none of the new features can spawn any un-generated sections of your map have an equal chance to spawn new biomes and buildings and 4J tweeted a while back that in a future update we will be getting anvil worlds because they think they found a way to store the memory of the game more compactly
