I went with aesthetically pleasing builds. Enjoy seeing builds that work with the landscape rather than against it and seem to fit in with the environment. These huge redstone contraptions impress me as well, but coming from an art background I prefer architecture.
Really, I'm not impressed unless the build has some sort of function. For example, arenas are cool, but if you manage to make it so that one can fight in it with some crazy redstone wiring, then it's much better in my opinion.

Exactly, I understand that large builds take time, effort, and deserve apprecitation. But I like to interact with builds instead of walking around looking at it.
I think complicated restone builds are most impressive because they are extremely complex and difficult to make. You have to be really smart about redstone to make it do exactly what you want, and those who can easily manipulate it can make it do nearly anything they want. I'm definitely still a novice when it comes to redstone, but I have made some moderately difficult redstone builds and I know how hard it can be to make them. I have a ton of respect to those who are redstone experts because of the amount of intelligence and patience they generally possess.
I am a huge fan of large builds, but I don't think they are nearly as difficult to do. With a little planning and duping, you can complete a considerable build. "Legitimate" builds that do not use duping are a little more impressive. I still think these builds take quite a bit of patience and intellect, but often times not as much as complicated redstone builds.
lets say,
if a redstone lighthouse and a large castle were equally as creative and original, what one would you find to be more impressive then?
Lighthouses are pretty mediocre honestly, any large castle is more impressive. Generally I'm amazed by redstone megabuilds, I usually don't find too many piston-based machines to be that impressive though. I'm more into the data processing side of things, performing advanced functions based on complex algorithms and what not. Most of all, I love to see redstone recreations of Turing machines.
Its the redstone for me. I enjoy all the other aspects, but redstone machines really do it for me. There isnt anything better than pushing one button and seeing multiple machines/contraptions/circuits come together to execute a programmed response. Ahhh, just talking about it makes me wanna start layin some wire!

Small, but clever.

I voted for PvP 'cause battles are always fun.
