ETA: What gets me about many of the "legit" or "illegit" build threads, is that while a whole lot of people complain about people who just don't mine and then put up pictures of pretty builds, there appears to be no qualms about just accepting a claim of being a "diehard survivalist" at face value (even when the "doubt" of that claim is built right into the post.) A person, it seems, can still be a "diehard survivalist" even if they want to make sure that their world has every possible block resource and are not prepared to do without anything... and can die as many times as they want and even go back to get the stuff they lost while dying... or even exit without saving to negate any possibility of losing any stuff or even do without the leaderboards. To me, this is not a legitimate "diehard survivalist" or even perhaps a plain old "survivalist." This is a person just playing the game they way they want to; but then criticizing everyone else for just doing the same thing and wanting the game to pass a harsher judgment on "them" than "themselves."
I think this is apt. What does "survivalist" mean? Unless you play MC like NetHack with death = deletion of game world, then it all goes fuzzy from there.
In MC360, you can reach the world edge from the center of the map in less than 5 minutes. So if you die, you can probably get to your stuff, especially if you prepared a bit. So dying and respawning isn't really hardcore. If you prevent respawning or reloading, now you are surviving. that's my take on it, but if you disagree, that's OK. Just accept that the concept of "legit" is so subjective that there's always somebody who think your standards are sloppy. therefore, don't go around promoting your way as the one true way. There's some jerks in the news last week who think they're way is the one true way.
I'm an engineer. I like making stuff. I like using the right tool for the job. When I play MC360 on Easy, Normal or Hard, I play it to rush to build shelter and secure my area from MOBs. I don't play on those modes to build cool buildings. When I want to build a cool structure, that's when Peaceful or Creative gets used. I don't tend to mix modes. I'd rather keep the "survival" worlds to that style. However, there's no metric for if I'm doing it right. It's not like we're counting how many times I died, or something.
Nope, read it again, he said exactly what he intended.
OP: Anyway, I don't have much to contribute here, as I find the "adventure" to be a complete bore. But, how can something made in creative mode be a mindless creation? The whole point of creative is to get rid of the mindless aspect of the game. I.e. scouring caves for diamonds or holding the right trigger for hours.
your right, i should have thought about that a little more before saying.
i do think creative mode allows people to produce there art more freely, and without restrictions, and that doesnt make it any less impressive if you spend a lot of time on it.
i think something that i forgot to mention that might make a difference here is:
I role play, and its awesome.
that is probably the main reason why this is such a conflict.
along with the builds being a proud piece of art, they are also part of a story
and i dont want the spirit of the growth of the city and hard work by everyone to feel pointless
