Food you can eat: Fish, melons, bread, mushroom stew, rotten flesh.
Fish and rotten flesh are really easy to get, not a problem in my opinion.
Don't forget apples, golden apples, steak, porkchop,

Religion, has actually convinced people, that there's an invisible man, living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of the day, and the invisible man has a special list. Of 10 things he doesn't want you to do. And if you do ANY of these ten things he has a special place, full of fire, and smoke, and burning, and torture, and will send you there to suffer and choke and scream for all of eternity... But he still loves you.
Animals will continue to spawn in all chunks above ground. There is no way we will "run out" of animals at all. So, no need for the bread/melon diet
The original 1.8 changed to spawn logic so that animals can't respawn, but don't despawn. This was meant to prepare for breeding. This isn't a troll, that's actually what happened, and 4J decided to let animals respawn again for the xbox version if there's no breeding.
What?? No love for mushroom soup? Dude, soup and bread is all you need and both can be grown in large quantities with a reasonable resource input (Automatic farms).
I've already got soup to fill a large pool with and bread coming out my ears.
I usually have a hard time finding the red mushrooms...

They're planning on leaving the animal spawning as it is. And the worst case if they dont, passive mobs will still spawn just at a very low rate.

I posted this thread BEFORE 4J said they planned to leave the animal spawning alone, so to everyone who read this before the twitter post, they thought it was a serious matter.

Fishing takes too long, and pigmen deal heavy damage. Plus ghasts.
The Nether usually has both if you don't find them while exploring or cave diving. As for hunting pigmen, I have a bunker around my Nether portal (Ghast problems) that I can kill them from. Yes, fishing is hit or miss but if you can find one or two places that are good it will feed you well.

I am a Minecraft tourist. I am currently unavailable under the XBoxLIVE ID listed here but can be found under ZombieL0C0. If you see me online playing Minecraft, send a message and I will gladly take a stroll through your world.
You never know... breeding might become a surprise in the update...
That's what I was starting to think too. A surprise like when you are exploring a cave and a creeper falls right infront of your face. SURPRISE!! It's a possibility.

Yeah, but those will be harder to find.
