It will suck with no breeding and limited respawning if sheep also don't regrow their wool. It's either naked sheep running around everywhere or you put them out of their misery. :'(
We've been talking about the spawning/breeding problem for months now. Given 4J have a presence on the forum it would be very surprising, and pretty damn ridiculous, if they went and broke the game like everyone fears.

Of course it didn't stop them including the clay generation fail in the launch of the game so maybe they really are just a bunch of port-ducks pecking randomly at keyboards. I'm feeling confident about it though.
It's just a weird a spot to be in, having a finished game already out there and watching a port go through this process of being updated when you already know that the game is limited just by the nature of the system it is being ported on. Knowing this, it's easy to assume the worst when there are these limitations and updates are infrequent.
Most gamers have had a bad experience with a port or translation in the past, so for some, it just brings up those fears when they see 4J Studios not speaking up on some of these worries that the players have ahead of time.
As you said, it would be ridiculous if they updated the game to be broken in a sense like that, but they should at least have the foresight to know that this would be a burning issue within the community and something they should speak on to quell the fears of some.
As much as people complain about the repetitiveness of threads being posted, there seems to be an abundance of the same replies just as often. [/pot calling the kettle black]

The chance a cow or sheep spawn in a pen is low. I think it's possible to breed
Maybe they just added the ability for animals to follow you with wheat or maybe they spawned them with some developer debug interface. The screens and videos in no way confirm breeding unfortunately.
4J released a video and screenshot some time ago of chickens inside
a large pin. While some people thought this lead to breeding, people soon
discovered that that the player could've easily thrown eggs all over the
place.
However, 4J's recently released video shows cows and pigs in a big pin
together. Note: 4J has not confirmed breeding, but I have a pretty good
feeling breeding will be in 1.8.2.

Damn, that sucks but is expected. Hopefully the game isn't badly broken. Here's hoping that they keep the spawn rates the same as the previous version, only changing it so they don't despawn. That way, if they die, you can just wait a little to get more animals instead of forever. :'(

All they have took out is XP which is useless without Enchanting anyway. They have confirmed superflat is being brought forward

Guys, breeding is not the only way for food. We've got wheat, Apples, Porkchops from pigmen. ( I believe they will still drop pork) Chicken egg farms for your meat needs, Melons, cake and if you're dying really bad, killing a cow will not hurt.
Well this is a huge disappointment. I still don't know why 4J would demonstrate cows and pigs
like that. I could understand if they just wanted to show you the beef texture, but still.

Guys, breeding is not the only way for food. We've got wheat, Apples, Porkchops from pigmen. ( I believe they will still drop pork) Chicken egg farms for your meat needs, Melons, cake and if you're dying really bad, killing a cow will not hurt.
It's not all about food. Without breeding and respawning, it also limits the amount of feathers, wool and leather you can get.

You don't have to kill sheep. Who even kills sheep? 2 pieces of iron can lead to stacks of wool. Even not, you can use string to make it. Leather armor is pretty crappy armor. Especially when iron is so easy to get. Feathers are only used for arrows as well. A simple mob grinder and you'll have more arrows than you will ever need. It's all about adapting, that's what some people are afraid of. I myself and damn well ready for new challenges, cause to me that's what minecraft should be. Something new every single time.

OMFG people. 4JSteve said you will NOT have to worry about running out of animals so there will NOT be limited food/resources from animals. It sounds like until breeding is put in, they are either leaving the animal spawning the way it is now, or doing something extra with it.
