What is the purpose of slime farms, and slime other then currency in RPG worlds? Also can slimes spawn during peaceful mode? and how do you make them?

to answer that question, i'm not good on doing "farms" yet, all i did was go to bedrock, and blow the hell out of it with a double cheat full of TNT to make a huge room. then saved, turned on "E-Z" then boom.. slims started pop'n up like nothing, only the small slims give you slim balls. the monster slims can hurt you, and if killed, sometimes they will just disappear. sometimes, they will split.
